here are my ratings of the various hires. A scale of 1-10 has been employed, with 1 representing a Wade Houston quality hire and 10 being a Bruce Pearl quality pairing. In no particular order:
Colorado=8. Jeff Bzdelik is a tremendous coach with strong ties to the region. If the CU administration actually provides him with resources, he'll do fine.
Texas A&M=7.5. It would have been impossible to adequately replace Gillispie. That said, Mark Turgeon will do a good job for the Aggies.
Kansas State=-4. One of the worst hires in recent college basketball history. Frank Martin is a passionate, hard working guy. He has no business being a head coach in a power conference. You don't hire a guy to hold a recruiting class together for one season. This will be a disaster.
Minnesota=9. The Gophers couldn't have imagined they would get a coach of Tubby Smith's quality when they fired Dan Monson. They should rejoice at their good fortune.
Michigan=9.5. John Beilein's tactical acumen is well documented. The only question is how well he will recruit the major cities in Michigan.
West Virginia=This requires two grades. From a PR standpoint, this is a 12. Huggs is the only coach the Mountaineers could have hired that would ease the collective angst suffered by the fanbase as a result of Beilein's departure. From an efficacy perspective, I'll give it a 7. History says Huggs will do what he always does, win big. However, I really have a bad feeling about this one.
Kentucky=10. Perfect guy for the job. Period.
Arkansas=2. Pelphrey will survive with the talent on hand. Once he's left to his own devices, he'll fail miserably.
Iowa=6. Todd Lickliter. No big deal.

Interesting take on the Huggins hire. I can only guess what the pitfalls might be.

It also looks as if Billy Clyde's Texas recruiting connection may be his first real test for the UK fans. They are like retards at recess when it comes to homegrown talent. It mirrors UT fans who think we can build a national powerhouse with Tennessee "boys".

I respect your opinion on Pelphrey, but I do think he may have more potential than a 2. The irony is geographically he is in Billy Clyde's recruiting wheelhouse.

Personally, I think your man Cal was the perfect hire, and I would like to think that the man best suited for the UK job would have a ring on his finger bigger than the one they give to the WAC champion. For a 10 grade in Lexington, the guy is going to have to make Final Four appearances pretty much every other year, so I would like to withhold judgement on the "other" Billy until he has a couple of seasons under his belt. Given his short tenure at his previous places of employment coupled with the impatience of today's Wildcat's, that might be the extent of his tenure, anyway.

That being said, Gillispie certainly did a good job at A&M and UTEP, and he seems to be a good fit from a personality standpoint. I'm just not sure those qualities are enough to make him the perfect hire for the Cats considering they just threw a going away party for Tubby.

Hat, who are the top coaches in the SEC in your opinion?

I'm not happy UK got away with running Tubby out of town. Maybe a few mediocre seasons and he will bolt, too, then they can screw it up right this time.

I think Donovan, Kennedy, Gillispie and Pearl are head and shoulders above the rest of the coaches in the conference.

WVU good hire + Huggins known abilities = Really bad feeling

There are some things in play there that the general public isn't aware of at this time. As a Huggins friend and fan, I'm exceptionally concerned about this move.
