This time of the year just eats me up. I was feeling really good about the Cal game until I read this on GVE...

Cal: Quarterback Nate Longshore, who finished second in the Pac-10 in passing efficiency last season, returns along with his top three wide receivers, including preseason All-American DeSean Jackson, whom Cal is promoting for the Heisman. Tight end Craig Stevens was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection. All-Pac-10 center Alex Mack will head up an offensive line that returns two other full-time starters and one part-time starter.
Tailback Justin Forsett isn’t a returning starter, but he might as well be. He rushed for more than 1.600 yards the last two seasons while sharing time with Marshawn Lynch. Cal also has former Parade All-American running back James Montgomey, who redshirted last season.

I must admit, I have been nervous about this game since last August. Especially after last years game. Do I think we can win the game.....absolutley. In my opinion this could be a make it or break game with very serious season implications. The CAL game is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

DeSean Jackson is the one who really scares me. His return game is especially something on the minds of all Vols. In his punt returns, he's returned 1 out of every 5. That's an impressive ratio for a college player. Though, due to his weight, you have to wonder how often they will use him back there. Longshore is goin' to put up some impressive numbers this year. I expect him to have a year like Ainge had last year. Also, Forsett is a stud, but I think we can contain him well enough to hold him under 115. The explosive WRs are what make me most nervous.

In the back of our minds, we're all nervous about this game. Make sure y'all have plenty of beer at your demise.

I predict that if they put Jackson returning ko's and I saw on ESPN that they will......somebody will blow him up and he'll leave the game on a cart. You heard it here first. Nevin is licking his chops.

Tight end Craig Stevens was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection.

Isn't this the same guy who was given a concussion on the opening kickoff last year?

Cal is a dangerous team, and we could lose this game. However, I cannot say I am "worried".

At the end of the day, UT is stronger, faster, tougher, and more disciplined than they are. I believe that will make all the difference.

Their ragarm QB showed up with blue hair for Pete's sake! Here's to seeing Ayoob by the end of the second quarter again this year.

Those numbers are against PAC 10 defenses. We double up on DeSean Jackson and contain the run, Cal won't have a chance in hell.

Correct me if I'm wrong but how is this differant from last year...the only differences I see are the following:

1. Longshore is more experienced and is without a douobt Cal's guy...no Ayoob like last year (favors Cal)

2. Lynch is gone...no two headed monster for us to worry about (favors UT)

3. Cal is playing at home...the "hostile" environment will probably seem like a little worse than Kentucky to us, it will be mid to low 80's without humidity (I call this a draw)

I think Cal has a potentially explosive offense but until the put up when it matters I'm not going to be afraid of anything I see on paper about them

what really concerns me is that we got off quick last year and sort of just avalanched on them with the 100,000+ just going berserk. Can we strike quickly again and rip their heart out? I hope so. I think that they just cant compete strength wise and in the depth department.

Since those Cal players are much better this season I expect the Vols will only put a 20 point ass whippin' on them this year.

I know that they have all theses speedy recievers but the thing I remember is longshore never getting settled b/c he was running scared for most of the first half. Someone else pointed out too that a lot of those stats came against the Pac 10, I am sure if we go and look at the numbers that in games where they faced a good/decent pass rush they struggled. See passing numbers bleow for th USC game, don't get me wrong I am not saying we are as telented or as good defensivley thna USC, just poointing out that the efficacy of the passing game depends on the push off the line and the LB's that are playing. The guady stats come from Oregon, Stanford, Oregon State ans son on, I said it last year and I will say it again, SEC defenses are on a much different level. That being said I don't think this game will be a cake walk either.

Cal 9 17-38-2 176 1
USC 23 18-31-0 238 2

my guess is that he only returns kicks in key situations.

You will be seeing a much better offensive line this time around. Most of the guys who started against you last year had almost no experience. We only lose our two worst offensive lineman. We were in the top-5 in the country in pass protection after your game (yes I know, not the sec, etc etc). I don't see you guys getting the same kind of pressure.

My guess is that this is going to be a shootout. EA will thread cal's D. I think Brown and Cottam will have monster game and a monster year. Arian and Montario should be able to run consistently against Cal with our improved offensive line. Our defense will be the fastest one they will see this year besides USC and we should be able to pull it out like 38-35 or 45-42.

Your defense is the fastest one we will see all year, but we will score 5 tds?

From what I have heard, the Cal and UF games have been targeted by the team as the make or break games for the year.

All of those points may not come on our D, DeSean Jackson maybe on returns, but I think it will be a shootout or a blowout cause cal ain't stopping us ans I do not think we will blow them out.
