I forgot to add: That is a 5k race. So just over 3 miles.

According to the LadyVolsRowing site, this would be the 3rd year in a row that the LadyVols have finished in the top 3. Last year they took a 3rd place finish.

The novice team, for those who do not know, is for first year rowers. Most of these rowers have never set foot in one of these boats before they got to campus this fall.

This is a pretty good showing (though there is a long ways to go in the big scheme of things) for these girls. Next up is Chattanooga this week, and then training for Spring!!

I used to live in OR not far down the road from there and watch them on occasion. Very nice place when the wind's not blowing too hard. Good spectator viewing. Have you been there, GB?
Great showing, LVs.

Great showing, LVs.

I have been there twice.
1) last spring when my daughter was looking into the sport to see if it was something she wanted to do. HUGE regatta that day. Great experience.

2) Last week with my daughter on the UT novice team. Again, a great experience.

I really enjoy the venue. Like you said, there is good spectator viewing and it was a great day for rowing.

These kids work their tails off for this sport. It is something where you almost have to be a bit crazy just to participate because you will be in pain. And no matter how much pain you are in, you are driving yourself deeper into with every stroke.

My kid loves it. She is the most competitive person I have ever known. I think the coaches see that. I hope she improves enough to make the Varsity next year. (she is also one point away from being a 4.0 student right now, so hopefully that keeps up as well.)

Good times.

I also liked OR itself. If I could find work that direction I think I would consider moving. Nice area and it would be interesting to see if my horses glow in the dark after grazing for a few years on the OR turf!

If you are ever in that area and have a day to mosey around....take the drive up Hwy 63 (and Hwy. 27 & others, but it's easy) to Cumberland Gap, Ky. You might want to grab a bite at Webb's Country Kitchen there in CG. It's plain country cooking (food was great when I used to go there several years ago-a little crowded on Sunday). They also have live local bluegrass on Friday nights that is supposed to be really good....but, I've never been there then.

As a horse person, you would love the drive up the Powell Valley on Hwy. 63. Obvious horse country and I read that historically the valley was a horse-trading/racing area for local residents, American Indians and others as far back as history goes. It's not far and doesn't take too long and the view is not tourist oriented pottery shops-it's mostly all local-other than smaller towns like Lafollette. The old road is right beside and winds on and off Hwy. 63 and going on and off (like I used to) it is a real view of that part of the country and people who live and have lived (some unusual huge old houses in small communities that have been restored right beside neat cottages) there.

I just printed this off and sent it to my wife. Sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday. Would love to move closer to Knoxville/Oak Ridge and be able to enjoy that area more. Cookeville is. . . well. . . we wont go there!!

Thanks for the info, I will be sure to put it to good use!
