I've often heard on more than one occassion that ND has the biggest fan following, where are they? I would have to say that we gotta be high on that list. You guys or girls got em out your way? I'v seen more vols fans in Pittsburgh.

I went to school with a fairly obscene number of Domer fans. For the most part they pulled for Notre Dame and Tennessee

Of course, those were the same kids who when basketball season rolled around pulled out the UNC or Duke gear.

There should be a law against that unless you have degrees from both schools.

i had serious serious issues with the father/son Houston combos as a child. as a result i became a Duke fan being a PG and a huge Hurley fan. it's stuck since. in the mid nineties i finally gained a respect for UT basketball... but my allegiances had been set.

That's fine and dandy and I know a lot of people do it . . . I've just never been real big on having one allegiance during football and another during basketball.
Oh, I am a UT man in b-ball too. When they play i pull for Tennessee. But UNC b-ball is fun to watch and pull for.

Yeah, I've commented before a few times on how funny it was that the number of off-season UNC fans was pretty big before Bruce Pearl came to town.

I have an unfortunate confession to make, myself. Back in the mid 90s, at a very young age, I adamantly pulled for Kentucky when they were having great success. Scars from that time remain in the form of a blue and white UK basketball that I have tried to unsuccessfully pawn off several times. I never pulled for them against UT... but I remember hoping and wishing they'd win the NCAA's. Ugh.

Actually I think Notre Dame has one of the largest fan bases in the country. It has been a few years, but there was a top 50 list of most popular colleges and ND was #1 and I seem to remember that Tennessee was ranked around #5 or #6.

Man, I know exactly what kind of people you are talking about.

what if your parents are alumni of a huge basketball program like Indiana, and you (myself) were born in Knoxville?

when i went to IU football games as a kid, it was more of an excuse to do something with my family in Bloomington before basketball started. when UT played IU in the Peach Bowl in '88, i rooted for the Vols.

You, sir, should be ashamed. A formal apology to all right thinking Vol fans is in order, preferrably while burning said UK jersey in a public setting.

Ideally, it would be one of the gray jerseys from the time period in which Kentucky sold its school colors to Converse, or the god-awful Zubaz tiger stripes from the Gimel Martinez era, but I will leave that choice to your discretion.

Definitely not proud of that dark period in my childhood... but I never had a jersey! I have that basketball. Can't give the frickin' thing away. It is flat, if that helps. :)

Defending both decent fan support and fashion sensebilities. Well played, sir.

Also serves as a nice prop for when the Vols beat the 'Cats.

I'd still like to do away with it.

Make it a nice chew-toy for any dogs you may have.

My friend brings his dog with a chew-toy duck to the Civil War game every year.

Believe it or not, but people are starting to attend IU football games again...they get 5 wins and season ticket sales skyrocket!

Watching IU basketball games in Bloomington is a pretty good time though, great place to be on a basketball game day.

Football is good from the standpoint of..you can park right next to the stadium, buy tix day of and still be sitting 20 rows from the field on the 50 yard line!

i'm a domer... obviously =)

notre dame has the most widespread fanbase since they are televised nationally and independant (so they can schedule games from coast-to-coast... i.e. Baltimore (Navy) to L.A. (USC)). Of the 9 games that drew over 5 million viewers this year, 4 of them were Irish games.
