Sigh.
One of my friends is their band director. I almost applied for the job myself, but one of their former directors recommended I not do it if I valued my sanity.
Their marching band is part of the athletic department, not the school of music. Funding is low and support is hard to come by. Their current director is in his first year and doing everything he can to shore up the program and increase support at the University level so he can grow the program.
Don't make fun of the kids for the situation the athletic department has created. They're doing they best they can when an endowment-rich organization keeps them around to say they've got a band but keeps their foot on the throat of the organization.
