When we win our next championship, it'll be, as it ever was, "because the conference was down."
State was loading the box most of the night. Hard to run against a loaded box IMO. The LB's were crashing down all night.Another issue was the lack of running plays. I thought Tennessee would have an advantage running the ball but I rarely saw the plays called. It put a lot more pressure on Aguilar and passing game.
I have talked to a couple of State fans since the game. They were excited that they hung with the Vols and look forward their future. I think most of us knew Lebby was a solid, well trained innovator of offensive football and feel confident he will return excitement to State. Nothing but respect for State today.
There have been a few that broke that mold like 1995 Nebraska, 2001 Miami, and a few of the Saban teams. I also think 2022 Georgia was that way. Basically these teams went unbeaten and beat everyone soundly. It’s easy for an opposing fan to look at the year end results of a championship team and think it was all sunshine and rainbows all season. The truth is they had some bad games along the way and some breaks that went in their favor. There’s no smooth road to a CFB championship. Good teams just find a way to get it done week to week.
The Vols ( coaches & players ) kept shooting themselves in the foot with muffed punts, IT'S, and HORRIBLE clock management. Clean that garbage up and we win by 2-3 scores. GBO.But if you do, you have a solid team. You got the right coach. You are headed in the right direction. Your team has a lot of fight. That was a hard fought game.

Clemson was a neutral site game. People don’t say he struggles in neutral site games.I just hope the Nega-Vols are willing to credit our lads with a significant road win for the first time in the history of Josh Heupel (if you squint enough to ignore LSU, Clemson, and all those other ranked teams we've beaten away from home).
Go Vols!
