Be that as it may, I was just responding to the notion that Saban complaining about us "getting Kentucky and Vandy" had resulted in us getting South Carolina instead. We certainly have way more history with Kentucky, but if they did that for Saban, they didn't really do him much of a favor, between Kentucky and South Carolina, neither is a lot better than the other imo.

Some people just like to play the victim, we have a winning record all-time against 2 out of our 3 permanents. We have a losing all-time record against 2 out 3 of UGA's permanents (FL and AUB).

We currently have a better football and baseball rivalry with South Carolina than Kentucky.

It may me a more even series (during some of our darkest times) …but it ain’t a rivalry….

Well, they screwed it up by giving us SCAR instead of Kentucky. Switch SCAR to UGA and KY to Tennessee and that part of it is fixed. Kentucky loses their two longest running rivals in Tennessee and Vandy.

There was a nice round robin between Arky, LSU, MissSt and Ole Miss that was totally detroyed.

The only ones they got right were TX and Mizzou.

This haphazard decision probably cost tens of thousands of dollars. I could have done much better for $100 and a case of beer and some Jack Daniels.

I'm clearly in the minority but I'm glad UT got South Carolina instead of Kentucky. The Carolinas have been great to Tennessee in recruiting and I think having as much visibility there is great for the program.

Alabama and Vandy are a given. Frankly despite the history, I prefer South Carolina over Kentucky as it gives us more inroads to a better recruiting base in that state. Better athletes in South Carolina and a state that is going to continue to grow due to draw into Charleston and Greenville/Spartanburg area. As others have stated the rotation of other conference opponents is going to provide a ton of high quality games regardless. How those other rotating teams are paired up it what I’m interested in.

For instance, we will likely play:
Auburn and Kentucky every other year
Either Ole Miss or Miss State every other year
Either Missouri or Arkansas every other year
Either Texas or Texas A&M every other year
Either Florida or Georgia every other year
Either LSU or Oklahoma every other year.

Going to be fun. Doubt anyone is going to run this gauntlet undefeated but with expanded playoffs, even 2 losses will get into playoffs. 3 is even possible. UT should never lose to Vandy and should beat South Carolina 4 out of 5 years. We just need to consistently compete with Bama which is the challenge, but I think everyone sees (including Saban) that UT is no longer an underperforming program. We still have a lot to prove off a bounce back season last year, but the belief is there. Pull off another 10-11 win season next year and we will be primed for the new conference alignment.

Some programs don’t have such momentum. Vandy always has a lot of work to do and will likely continue to be near the bottom. Kentucky’s recent reasonable success may be heading downward. Ole Miss, is basically a Cinderella team who makes noise but fizzles out and will diminish even moreso when Kiffen bolts. Auburn really needs immediate positive outcomes. A&M is heading in wrong direction prior to realignment. Miss St, South Carolina, Missouri and Arkansas all have to scratch and claw to be relevant. Florida is having issues. Oklahoma‘s last season has created urgency for their coach. Texas has all the resources in the world but underachieves, so what will they do in a more competitive league?

The power belongs to Georgia and Alabama without any doubt, but LSU and UT are undeniably approaching the cusp in my opinion. Yes I’m drinking the punch. We beat the teams we are supposed to beat each year, and compete somewhat more equitably with Bama and Georgia, I think we can be a fixture in the playoffs.

I would rather play UK than USCjr, but I like the overall strength of our rivals vs Bamas, UGA, Florida, and Auburns. Could be huge for us having 2 pretty sub par teams that we play every year.

Great post. I couldn't agree more with your observations. I suspect one of Oklahoma/Texas will handle the transition well. On the other hand when Saban retires, the Gump job becomes very unattractive once Saban leaves. Nobody will want the pressure of that job and it takes a special person to handle everything about that position. I can't see a scenario where Alabama maintains their recent level.

And every time we play its on CBS and the announcers well you know what i mean about Saban and any player for Alabama. I don't think there is a FAIR way. The three that have BAMA and GA every year are at a disadvantage to win out no matter what the other two games are. I want just a full rotational schedule for everybody. If two teams have a joint fixation, allow them to schedule a game OUTSIDE the conference schedule when not in rotation, just another game.

Actually need one more conference member to get to 17 so each team can rotate home and home 8 and 8 in two year cycles or every other year. Let the rest go.

Still prefer my brainchild (seem to be the only one in the world) that wants an 18 team 3 pod league where you play 5 pod members and rotate 2 teams each two years from the other two pods so you see everyone every 6 years. Seems a lot better to me. Three pod winners and highest ranked from the rest have semi final games, so getting stuck with the top dog in pod does not eliminate you every year.

Invite Louisville, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida St, Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, NC State, Oklahoma St & Tulane to the SEC and form a Super Conference. Every state but Missouri and Arkansas would have 2 teams in it.

I don't get Florida matching up with Oklahoma and that's not a complaint about quality of opponent. I will say it wouldn't shock me if Florida stopped playing Tennessee. I can just hear this board......."the minute we're fixin to whip their ass every year, they come off the schedule".

I still think a divisional split on georgraphy and rotate two teams from the other division every year is the way to go.

The whole pod concept upsets me.
