We were 3 - 1 going into Georgia week last year...

C'mon, man...did you notice we didn't play Oregon last year.
I hope my sarc detector is just on the fritz. Then again, ESPNU just showed the long int. in the end zone as a great 8 nominee...smdh.

It's easy to look at units that are worse due to personnel changes, but I can't think of a player who is playing worse than he did last year. Everyone's acting like the OL is not living up to expectation, but our run game is as good as I remember and they also had to learn a new scheme.

All of the not improving statements I see are things that were obvious since draft day.

About the only area I can point to is offense. We lost a lot of talent from last year and we have freshman and inexperienced players playing key positions. That is the cards that CBJ was dealt with coaching, talent, and time being the fix.

the play calling has not improved from week to week...not sure if that is a function of the limitations of our talent on offense or just bad play calling though...i am not a worley fan but he has at least shown flashes of looking alright. i just hope he cac string it all together for one really good game against uga or usc in the next two games and give us a chance at an upset with uga being hungover after the lsu win and south carolina has not looked particularly great this year

QB play and overall team speed. Those you can't fix until you get the right personnel. He will need a couple of years. We're right where we were in 2010, giving a guy time to get his players in here and hope he turns it around. He's recruiting better than Dooley, seems to be a better coach so far. It's going to take some time. So we wait and hope.

I think the play calling is definitely related to talent. Good post, zreeves.

I agree that the play calling has not been incredible, but our problems have mostly been in execution (passing game) especially in the easy throw and catches...

The fake FG was a genius play call, with decent execution the game is over after that play.

How come our outside containment sucks so bad. Any team that decides to run outside the ends can count on at least a 20 yard gain.

Obviously we have taken a step backwards at QB and WR. Whith the talent we lost to the NFL, it was bound to happen.

Guys can't get off blocks and have no awareness. That's all i can come up with. It happens far to often though. It is frustrating watching teams get to the edge on us over and over.

I know the outside contain responsibilities differ depending on the defense, but I've heard Tim Irwin complain on the radio about our corners not being able to fight through blocks.

I am very concerned with the schemes of the OC and DC. That leads to the play calls. The OC is clueless on the most important pass play in a spread - the slant. The DC is clueless on how to handle 3rd and Chavis as well as training the guys on setting an edge.

^^this. While improved at times, it's not close to being where it needs to be. They need to win the edge much much more.

Agree with most of this, but would just modify the last sentence to "...with decent discipline, the game is over..."

Penalty count went up last game, which was a bummer to see. As that is an area up to this point, I thought we had improved on.

What about the middle of the field, guys? One poster mentioned on offense, we need to use slant passes more. Couldn't agree more.

*But, on D that is our crutch. The middle of the field: coverages the slant passes, little hook routes, where a guy just turns around right around the first down marker & sits open waiting for the pass, the pass rush leading to a pocket where the middle just opens up where despite there being good coverage 1-on-1 by the CB's, there is plenty of green for the QB to run 20 yds.

Special teams are a big improvement over the last few years.. I just don't think we have the talent to compete, we need speed and more speed.. 2 recruiting classes like the one we have right now and we will see a whole different world of football.. Going to take time and it is rough watching it but "Brick By Brick" is just not some catch phrase it is the truth right now.

I was terribly disappointed in the second half offensive play calling. When we got the turnover at our 40 yardline and threw 3 consecutive passes, I was as frustrated as I have ever been with this coaching staff. Especially after the first drive of the half.

I said early in the season that we needed stability at QB by the GA game to get a real measure of this team and coaching staff. We don't have it.

We have definitely regressed in penalties and mental focus from the first game of the year. Yeah, I know it's AP but FFS that was South Alabama. No excuse for the 8 penalties.

Passing Offense... enough said. Not improved at all.
