but is there really a lot of talk about Bill Cowher taking over next season? Listening to the radio on the way to work this morning and on Fox Sports radio their "expert" was saying how Cowher's name was being talked about a lot in Knoxville. Other than message boards, is this discussion really going on? I'm in Va. so I have no clue how much truth there is to it but I was surprised to hear him say it.

I may catch grief for it but i think he is just what Tennessee needs right now a smash mouth football coach. Plus he would bring some very good assistants with him. Don't get your hopes up though
i don't think it will happen IMO. Its a message board name i would guess.

No hopes up on my end, I'm not on the Cowher bandwagon, I was just curious to know how loud that talk was considering he was named specifically by the ananlyst on the radio.

The analyst is just blowing smoke IMO.I'd rather he pushed for Jimmy Johnson, who knows if he came here you might see JM roaming the sidelines again.

Imagine a fired up coach on our sidelines who isn't afraid to grab a face mask and get in a kids face. Fired up is what we need. Not a golf applause for every bad play. To me that is why Phil needs to step down and that alone is reason enough. Way to go guys (clapclapclap)you were moving the ball(clapclapclap) until you fumbled (clapclapclap) you'll getem next drive, makes me steam. He did it alot during Bama, anyone else notice?

You do realize the TV isn't on CPF every down right? I saw him chase down McCoy after his boneheaded lateral attempt and chew him a new one. I see every coach do it but no one points that out.

I think you are missing the point, sure he get on players, and thats great wish he did it alot more, but the "golf clap" kills me and I am not the only one to notice. You can't tell me that after a bonehead play and the camera goes to Phil and you see him do clapping, it can't make you feel good. He needs emotion good and bad plays. He needs a fire in his belly not a emotionless golf clap.

watch other games and see if it doesn't happen. I've seen Pete Carrol laughing (from frustration) on his sidelines. Is he a bad coach because of it? It's his way of trying to get the players to forget and move on by saying not to dwell on it.

People make WAAAAAAAAY to much out of it when all they see are 3sec shots on TV.

How about when we go to the games and that's pretty much all we see is him standing there clapping good or bad he's clapping.

I think he is the best coach in the world. His kids are always prepared and ready to play. They are top notch and could never be taken from the top of the polls.

Sincerely,

Stanford

then I would say you have issues if you go to games to stare at CPF.

And Sjernigan88 that crap is just old. Get a new shtick

You know what i mean quit trying to dilute the issue.
Bottom line on CPF is Karma is finally catching up with him. (See coach JM)

I don't think PJ is diluting the issue at all. He's just not letting somebody get away with a goofy criticism just for the sake of criticism . . . sort of like chalking something up to karma.

thanks. I do think some criticisms of CPF are 100% valid but some are just not. I don't find him clapping to be one of them.

i've heard cowher's name on the following coaching wish lists:
Carolina Panthers
Cleveland Browns
Clemson Tigers
Tennessee Volunteers
NC State Wolf Pack (last year)

all driven by fans on call in shows or message boards.

i don't see him in college anytime soon. i think it's far more lilkely to see him in Charlotte or Cleveland in the near future than anywhere else. and those are slim as well.

Cowher can get an NFL job tomorrow if he wants it.
I can't think of a single coach that took a college job when he was sought after by the NFL.

I assume he'll end up back in the NFL someday, which is the main reason I wouldn't even want him to be considered for UT, even if it fixed anything it would be a temporary fix. I just hadn't heard the name being discussed outside of these walls, raised my curiosity as to what was being discussed down there when I heard it on a national radio program. That being said, I think more than half the people on national radio are idiots to begin with.
