Add in the Vandy series and the fielding woes just get worse. Make that 31 errors in 27 league games, a .968 fielding % that is 16th (aka last) in the conference. In 24 SEC contests this season, Tennessee has committed 25 fielding errors to its opponent's 13 (this doesn't include the errors vs Vandy). The Vols have committed 49 errors to their opponent's 43 in all contests during the 2025 season. Stolen bases attempted vs. Vols 33/CS 7. Fielding % is .971 or 12th in the conference. Hitting and pitching can't overcome this.
Notre DameI 100% believe there’s something to this. Started with the LSU strike zone a year or two ago (I can’t find the meme), but, in my opinion, it’s a subtle way of retribution for the brash nature of the Vols, especially in the recent past. I don’t see how else anybody in their right mind could call some of those pitches the way they did. Inconsistent officiating at the plate will affect a team, no doubt.
There's only one direction to go from a national championship and it's not up. South Carolina was the last team to repeat in 2010-2011. Florida in 2018 was the last SEC team to even play .500 ball the year after winning it all.
2023 champ: LSU - 2024 SEC record 13-17
2022 champ: Ole Miss - 2023 SEC record 6-24
2021 champ: Miss. State - 2022 SEC record 9-21
2020 champ: Covid-19 - 2021 SEC record 0-30
2019 champ: Vandy - 2020 SEC record (Covid)
2018 champ: Oregon State - 2019 PAC-12 record 21-8
2017 champ: Florida - 2018 SEC record 20-10
The BaseVols 15-12 SEC record heading into the Hogs series isn't great based on the current standards. However, it wasn't that long ago that SEC mark, along with a 39-13 overall record, would have been cause for celebration at this point in the season. CTV and his staff have raised the expectations in Vol Nation and rightfully so.There’s a drop off after winning the CWS. See Vandy, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and LSU. Maybe even add Texas AM on the list even though they didn’t win it.
Johnny Bench couldn’t throw out runners with Phillips pitchingHeard Vandys coach today on the radio. He was talking about the Saturday game and how they mainly wanted to get on base as they k ew they could steal bases and put runners in scoring position easily. Vandy hasn’t been the only team, Kentucky seemed to steal easily.
We really need to get a good defensive catcher with an arm to overcome this,

Certainly a younger team than last year, but the young team label is overblown. Kilen, Ensley, Bargo, Fischer, Chapman, Doyle, AJ, Marcus, Snead...young team, I just hope us fans high expectations doesn't run anybody off
Next year’s team should be really good. This group of freshmen, with some development, will make for a really talented core. Levi Clark, Newstrom, Marin, Abernathy, Lawless, Grimmer, Kuhns, Krenzel, etc. And lest we forget, we get to add Anson Seibert. Plus, we signed a lot of great pitching talent that’s redshirting this year…Hayse, Strickland, and Abraham. And losing 7 position players (incl 5 guys who hit >20 HRS), the entire starting pitching rotation, and Aaron Combs and Kirby Connell didn’t help. I will take a top 20 team after winning the NC.
Would also think that CTV will be hitting the portal hard too.Next year’s team should be really good. This group of freshmen, with some development, will make for a really talented core. Our right handed pitchers gotta work on holding runners. The announcer pointed out on Saturday that Phillips only looks back at runners once, when he turns his head back to home plate, the runner was taking off. We don’t give the catcher much help to say the least but this is something that has to be addressed, we’ve had this issue for 2 years, at some point we have to say we got a problem that must be fixed fast.Heard Vandys coach today on the radio. You are correct as well as another poster pointed out the same thingOur right handed pitchers gotta work on holding runners. Catcher isn't the problem. Our pitchers, especially Phillips give the catcher almost no chance.Heard Vandys coach today on the radio. The high leg kick by Phillips doesn't help either. Our right handed pitchers gotta work on holding runners.
