With all the talent we have on offense, why is DeBord not taking full advantage? I get so tired of seeing us being overly conservative on Offense. I'm not here calling for his job or anything, but when will we open it up more? We should have beat OU, but defense slacked off and our offense seemed to be content being conservative and not putting more pressure on the downfield passing game. Hurd and Kamara are capable of keeping drives going, but why not use Dobbs the way we did at the end of last season? I'm just not too happy with our production. Thoughts?

All of this drama regarding our offense is overblown and mostly based on ONE bad half. We kept things vanilla against BG and WCU and still had mostly success, with a few minor and meaningless hiccups. And we played a solid 1st half offensively against OU. Was the 2nd half poor, and the coaching strategy questionable? Yes. Along with most of you, I think Butch and Debord probably should have taken more risks down the stretch. But the players didn't execute either. OL stopped blocking anyone, Ellis likely cost us points with a dropped pass, VP fell down on a reverse that may have been a big gain, Medley shanked a FG. And like I said before, it's Still. Just. One. Half. Our offense is FAR from screwed. This week should tell us a lot more.

If he calls a great game against UF does that excuse the OU game?

To me, beating Florida is more important than the OU game. We played an underrated team to double overtime..that's awesome. What I'd like to see is the offense close out in the bigger games. We should have beat OU without a doubt, hang that loss on the offense. As far as a potential win at Florida excusing the OU loss? I don't think I can overlook it. I just hope we don't go conservative if we come out ahead of Florida.

Im not happy with Debord either. Im not sure he can coach up the qb's. It has been said that on his interview, he gave Dobbs some pointers to help improve his accuracy, and by the time Debord came back, Dobbs had already changed his footwork. Which his what Debord had suggested.

I question the playcall more than the QB mechanics. Constant rushed up the middle when it's clearly not working, multiple screens for no gain or a loss, and the fear of throwing it more than 10 yards downfield? I just don't like it. I'm not a nut-job fan who thinks we can throw it deep every play and have 500+ yards of total offense every quarter, but why keep the playcall so conservative? Use the downfield pass to set up the run, but not up the middle every time. I just want to see more production.

As conservative as the play calling was against OK in the 2nd half, the players still had multiple opportunities to make plays to win the game. The coaches put the players in position to win and they didnt get it done.

The worst thing about them going into conservative mode was they failed to run the play clock down along with it. Once they went conservative, if they had ran the play clock down under 3 seconds each play, we would have still won the game. Just a poor job anyway you look at it.

Did I miss the game were Dobbs proved he can throw down field?

The problems with our offense happened long before Debord flew into town. It was mentioned that Bajakian left because he wanted to change some things but Butch stamped out the idea. Not sure if there is any truth to that. I have little football IQ, but it seems to me that Butch Jones wants the team to conform to his system instead of molding the system to strengths of the players that he has in his stable.

You didn't miss it because we have yet to really show it. There were a few passes downfield against WCU and if I recall correctly we had a couple against OU that were moderately successful but we quickly abandon it almost entirely for the run/screen game, which proves to be unhealthy for offensive production because it's all we offer and they can key on it and stop it effectively. We may not be able to go downfield in the passing game, but we have got to make them stop keying on the run game.

The O-line is very average. Bill Walsh or Steve Spurrier in their prime couldn't have fixed the offense. When the OL can't punch holes in defensive fronts or keep the rush off of the QB, there's not a lot of scheming that exists that can overcome the deficiency for 60 minutes.

Oh Lord, here we go again! Another armchair coach.

I could see there being some truth to this.
