Not a fan of new teams schedules hardly seems we are in SEC anymore.

At the end of the day, does anyone really watch Kentucky play Vandy in football?

They will watch Texas play Bama.

Does that balance out the value of money?

There's a sh*tload of new money in Middle Tennessee (read Yankees and refugees from the commie hellholes on the left coast) who are wanting some college football and are funding Vanderbilt's NIL to the extent that, without any notable effort on the part of the VU administration and the traditional Vandy fan base, they damned near made the Playoffs.

I have to wonder if UTAD has made any outreach to the many Fortune 500 companies relocating here.

Somehow I doubt it.

(They needed to be doing this in Middle Tennessee 5-10 years ago but were too busy swapping thumbs with Food City and Pilot. That particular horse is so far out of the barn now it's running at Keeneland.)

you're not seeing reality.

first, it's not "bad for TV", the SEC only gets 3-4 national games per week, the rest of the games have to go to ESPN2 or SEC network or even worse the ESPN app. there's nothing you can do about that, there's only so many time slots for "epic games". so every single matchup doesn't have to be a huge game because nobody is watching the SEC network at 3pm every Saturday. too much other national competition for eyeballs.

Second, you completely ignore what the B10 did to rise back to national prominance which is pack their conference full of crap teams with only 3-4 dominant teams at the top to feast on the rest. Then force the 12 game playoff into existence therefore guaranteeing those same 3-4 teams always being included in the playoff.

meanwhile in the SEC you have 7 or 8 teams fighting to the death to get those playoff spots while they ruin and injur the other teams trying to claw there way in.

The B10 figured it out. devise a conference of 18 teams that practically guarantees 3-4 teams can win 10-12 games every year. OSU, Michigan, Oregon and then occasionally another team like Indiana or Penn St or fill in the blank one-time cinderella team.
The B1G schedules are such a joke. Look at Penn State’s schedule this season and then look at ours.

My biggest issue honestly is the way they format rotates.

I don’t mind an “A” and “B” schedule setup to get through all the in-conference opponents.

But the rotation should be A->B->B-flipped->A-flipped -> back to A, so that the next year each game gets a rematch, instead of there being a full season occurring between every rematch.

It's interesting that all you seem to care about is the few playoff games at the end and not good competition during the season.

As I said, I like football. You seem to see football as a way to collect trophies.

I'd rather have more good football games to see than a bunch of trophies. You do you, but I don't think "designing the season so we can get to the playoffs" is entertaining.

Have I mentioned I like good football?
Too bad bama, UGA, OSU, Michigan etc. see it that way. Loser mentality.

I remember speaking with a Vanderbilt professor a couple years ago when Vandy noticeably stepped up their spending on athletics. I was told it was because people were talking about removing Vandy from the SEC. The attitude was that Vanderbilt collected the SEC revenue but didn’t spend like an SEC program.

I’ve also pointed out to anyone willing to listen that the Ingrams and the Frists are worth many times over what all of UT’s billionaires are worth. Probably worth more than our entire fanbase combined.

It’s fun to jaw with your Vanderbilt friends about their football record sometimes, but don’t act like they couldn’t outdo us if it really meant something to them (in the NIL age). Hopefully Diego Poverty’s FU’s and trashy brothers made Vanderbilt care a little less than they have the past couple of years.

You don’t think winning is entertaining? We’re in the SEC and we play Alabama annually. We’re gonna get good games nonetheless. I love football and I love seeing the Vols win on Saturday. If we have to play some crappy teams to make the playoffs and win the national championship. So be it. Doesn’t matter how you find the pot of gold, what matters is you beat the leprechauns.

I also want college football to find its sense of normality and tradition. You know the things that are eroding every day but whatever. This is the game I’m growing up with so I guess we gotta deal with

By all means, if we want to win a lot we just drop to the Sun Belt or MAC or whatever trash conference, go undefeated, and breeze into the playoffs.

Or, we could be actual competitors and relish playing in the SEC and hope the SEC gives great competition for us to overcome.

I'd rather not watch us beat up on clearly overmatched teams in the hopes that we can get to the playoffs.

I'd rather we beat some of the best teams in the country on the way to the playoffs.

None of us respect teams that "back into" the playoffs with weak schedules..... I'm looking at you Notre Dame..... and excuse me for wanting to respect the UT Vols if we earn our way to the playoffs with wins over talented teams.

The way you worded your message made it sound like you were talking like you would rather have good football than win championships as evidenced by the “way to collect trophies comment” I’m in the same boat with you there I’d rather win the right way so we’re proven then beat up a bunch of cupcakes and get exposed

I DO like the good football more than trophies.

Winning a Natty is hard and takes not only lots of hard work but also a nice big dab of luck and good bounces. I'd much rather see good games..... and good wins 99% of the time..... than cupcake games or as someone suggested "a weaker SEC rather than a stronger SEC."

We routinely make fun of the ACC and previously the B1G for having almost no good teams and an easy route to the playoffs. I don't want the SEC to be that kind of conference. I want to beat the best in the SEC and then the best of the rest...... but selfishly because those are going to be mostly good, hard fought, quality football games.

I like good football.

Conferences really don't exist any more. We just have collectives where teams band together so they can make more money on a TV contract.

With the SEC, four teams are not even in the southeast. Rotating schedules do not allow for enough hate to be built up towards some of the teams that are a 2 day drive from your own campus. Not all change is good......for that matter most change is not good.
