North Korean ship used to illicitly transport coal is seized over sanctions violation, US announces

A North Korean cargo vessel used to transport coal was seized in violation of international sanctions against the rogue regime, the U.S. Justice Department announced Thursday, just hours after the hermit kingdom fired two suspected short-range missiles.

The 17,061-ton vessel, called the Wise Honest, is one of North Korea’s largest bulk carriers used to illicitly ship coal from North Korea and deliver heavy machinery to the Hermit Kingdom, officials said. U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said this is the first time a North Korean cargo ship was seized for violating international sanctions.

Seems like a response over what NK is doing.

Unarmed missile launched in test from Vandenberg Air Force Base

"
A flare lit up the sky early Thursday as the Air Force launched an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile from Santa Barbara County amid a round of missile launches by North Korea.

The U.S. test missile launch was the second this month from Vandenberg Air Force Base, with the Minuteman 3 roaring out of a silo at 12:40 a.m., carrying a test re-entry vehicle."

There was also a test launch today of a (presumably unarmed) Trident missile (from a submarine?) that flew some 7000 miles and put down about 100 miles off the coast of Africa.

EDIT: Probably more accurate to call it a DEMONSTRATION launch than a test launch. Little Rocket Man - did we get your attention?

That's not actually me in the picture

Well that’s a let down. Just goes to show you... don’t judge a book by its cover or assume what a VN Staff Member looks like based on their stances in the political forum. 😬

Exactly which stance would I share with the guy in the picture?

Apparently the one where you can’t take a joke . Ironically, that makes you very similar to someone else on here who is a constant topic of conversation.

North Korea Envoy Executed over failed Trump-Kim summit: report

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly ordered the execution of several top officials in March after they were unable to reach an agreement with President Trump at a second summit between the two leaders earlier this year.

Bloomberg News reported Thursday citing a South Korean newspaper that Kim Hyok Chol, North Korea's special envoy to the U.S., was executed in March along with four other North Korean foreign ministry officials involved in the Hanoi, Vietnam, summit.

For all of you still wondering why the Chinese are building up in the South China Sea, here is one example why. Sanctions and the threat of the US putting a stranglehold on commercial activity in that region.

I mean, the horror... the North Koreans shipping coal. What an atrocity.

Russian fingerprints are 'all over' North Korea's new missile

The three new missiles North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has tested over the past week are eerily familiar to military experts: They look just like a controversial and widely copied missile the Russian military has deployed to Syria and has been actively trying to sell abroad for years.

I love news stories like this. They don't really offer any proof of their claims, they just plant a mental seed in your head and want you to reach a certain conclusion. Saying the new missiles have "Russian fingerprints"... never miss an opportunity for an two-fer... demonize North Korea and Russia simultaneously.

You must have missed the reporting that most of NK's missile tech came from Russia and NK went full throttle with their missile test when Putin resumed office. The engines were made in the Ukraine but you appear not to be able to recognize the Russian political clout the breakup of the USSR had with the former members and yes the Ukraine plant was instrumental with the building the nuclear arsenal of the USSR.

The Russians, American and Chinese ( the BIG 3 ) have been playing politics with NK for over 30 years.

You afraid we're going to piss off Putin and Kim? They demonize themselves without any help from us.
