Maybe but for like 48 hours tops. Unfortunately, cut throat, unprincipled recruiting is not only the norm at this level but it is kind of required to be in the job for the long haul.

It is just not Mulkey; these super high paid coaches would find ways to justify signing Lizzie Borden if she had a consistent 3pt shot. Everyone lives by the Al Davis motto, "just win baby!", and if you do, all is forgiven/forgotten.

It is just like Lane, "I am always for sale" Kiffin who signed a former NFL player after saying that former NFL players have no place in college football, while proclaiming that his former NFL player recruit is a "special" case.

I don't think it's actually jealousy that she knows how to win. Just that her methods often emphasize winning and money over care of actual human beings. At least in some of our opinions.

I am zero percent - strike that, no, I'm negative percent - jealous of Mulkey's "knowing how to win." I just think she's like a dark inverted version of Pat Summitt, and I dislike it. She's most of Pat's coaching hunger and intensity, with much less of the ethical or moral foundation.

And this most recent example of her talking sideways out of her mouth about putting those two girls together? That's just more dissembling. She should have just been honest. She knew what was going to happen. She absolutely knew, and she did it anyway. No idiotic comments about "being ambassadors." That was stupid. Just own it. "I don't give a damn about any of that stuff, I'm just here to win games." I'd be about 50% less hostile to the situation - albeit still hostile - if she'd done that.

Exactly. The money these coaches and players are making has exceeded the game and the fun it used to be. It's what we have become as a country and it's only going to get worse. Lawyers and agents are licking their chops at what lies down the road.

Agreed. I was always an advocate for players to get a small stipend to have spending money since they, unlike most other students, don’t really have time to hold down part-time jobs, especially in the run-up to the season and then during the season. But what we have now is kinda ridiculous. High school children making huge amounts of money to play a game is too much.

Unfortunately, and this may be a tough pill to swallow, i think the modern college sports fan is kind of in the position of the Southern Gentry following the Civil War… kinda.

And yet people pay money to go see these “children” play. The TV networks broadcast their games and sell commercials. Fans buy their jerseys. Coaches are paid millions. Everywhere you look, people are making money from these “children playing a game”. The children deserve a cut of the industry.

Exactly! those upset about the money the children are receiving are barking up the wrong tree. Where do they they think that money comes from ? The outrage should be on those who are spending the money for their children's school supplies to donate to nil collectives instead, Or continuing to pay the outrageously inflated ticket, concession and merch prices to support it all.

On a Dolly scale, prioritizing millions for their favorite child quarterback above donations for children actually in need is a very disturbing, though not surprising, fact of current life.

WTF? Dolly and Uncle Bill were scraping the bottom of the barrel when she was a teenager. Singing for the horrible, deeply racist Cas Walker at his filthy grocery stores and off the back up flatbeds in parking lots. Begging Claude Tomlinson to spin a ragged demo just once on WIVK.

The money printing only started in the mid 70s, when she was in her late 20s and the songs began to hit. And that was delayed by the completly deplorable Porter Wagner suing her and forcing a settlement where he scarfed up the first million she made.

Also, just for the historical record, there were always questions about Dolly's money printing. She was definitely not cool for a long time anywhere outside the Nashville city limits. Linda Ronstadt was really the person responsible for making Dolly crossover cool when she included a couple of Dolly songs and some backup vocals on her smash album Heart Like a Wheel in 1975.
