No, I definitely wouldn't have dropped SCar further than #3. I wasn't saying it was a bad thing. Just commenting on it. Sometimes the voters have punished teams more harshly for a close loss, is all.
I'm certainly not handing UConn any NC trophy, and neither should anyone else, especially this early in the season. AP Poll ranking doesn't really mean anything beyond opinion and vibes on a good day. And in March, forget it.
There are UConn fans who certainly believe an undefeated season (or at least undefeated until the NCAA tourney) is a lock, but I'm personally too jaded to take that stance. An injury, an illness, UConn's shooters go cold while someone on the opposing team gets hot. Who can say. Hannah Hidalgo has absolutely torched us the past few seasons. The LVs could be fired up again to pull off another upset. A 5:30pm game at USC could be tricky. Or maybe UConn wins all of these games by double digits. I don't know, but I'm too superstitious to not expect a loss.
Honestly I'm not pumping up Michigan beyond the fact that they played the #1 team close (and erased a big deficit) and that they've played a harder schedule than LSU
so far. Right now LSU hasn't played any ranked teams. It's not like I expect Michigan to make the Final Four. I'd honestly hardly even tout UConn's win over them as anything special.
But let's be real, they are ranking LSU that high right now because of expectations that they will do well come conference play, and not based off of who they've beaten so far.
Edit: All that being said, I wouldn't say it would be unfair at all to make Texas #1 in the poll. They
have beaten the #2 & #3 ranked teams.
