I don't think it has anything to do about "needing" anyone. I think they play eachother for the good of the game....for the fans...for ratings. Uconn played south carolina when south carolina was irrelevant. I doubt Dawn will forget that. But, we shall see. She also commented that playing uconn is a measuring stick for where they are come tournament time. At least for now that is true...when geno retires, I seriously doubt it!Is UConn on the LV's schedule for the upcoming season?
With the addition of powerhouse Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC I doubt SC will play UConn again anytime soon. As much as fans enjoy the competition there's no advantage for SEC teams to play UConn. Our conference games are difficult enough to bolster any strength of schedule.
With their weak conference, they need us a lot more than we need them.
Tournament seeding has much to do with strength of schedule. A team that plays a weak conference schedule "needs" to pad that schedule with wins from power conferences in order to secure a higher seed. UConn makes up for their weak conference schedule by playing ranked teams outside of their conference. Conversely because of the overall strength of the SEC, LSU can afford to play a weak out of conference schedule but still gain a high seed.I don't think it has anything to do about "needing" anyone. That is all very true, although Dawn was quoted as saying a while back that she gives kudos to Geno for playing south carolina all those years where as she said, " we were getting our butts kicked." I still think they will play eachother, maybe not this year, but in the future. Not sure Dawn is as bent out of shape about the statue comment as fans would like to think. Just my opinion. SC won't be playing UConn this season because of the extra teams they must play in conference plus they already have scheduled games with UCLA and SoCal. Don't think Geno ever played SC out of the kindness of his heart. Even in Dawn's early years the SEC was the superior conference. As they say "It just means more". With the recent insult Geno threw our way ( which Dawn took personally ) who knows when they'll play again.
A woman who called a five year old boy the n word at a park has crowd sourced over $600k to “defend” herself. Sometimes I just despair of where we are.To those who argue that statues should only be erected to those who have passed on I say our state has too many of those already. It also does not insure that history will view them in a favorable light.
Our State House grounds one block away from Dawn's statue are littered with statues in honor of the Confederate dead. Gov. Ben Tillman's statue honors his founding of Clemson and Winthrop but makes no mention of the Black citizens he slaughtered during reconstruction. The statue of Marion Sims ( the Father of Modern Gynecology ) has no footnote that tells us he experimented on female slaves without anesthesia. While Gen. Wade Hampton sits proudly upon his horse in a Confederate uniform we know he was a leader of the terrorist Red Shirts of post Civil War days. A marble plaque on the State House wall prominently displays the Ordinance of Secession which started the Civil War ( more Americans died during the Civil War than in WWI, II and Vietnam combined ) but fails to recognize that these famous South Carolinians who signed the document were all slave owners. A recent law passed as a compromise to the Confederate flag's removal insures that no statue may be removed without a majority of the House and Senate. That will never happen.
what r u talking bout, Lucy? what woman?
Nope. Born in Jackson, MS.Good for Nell, I don’t know she was Canadian?
I might add that the Big East is changing up their scheduling starting, I believe, next year. It means each team will play two additional conference games. Makes OOC scheduling more challenging and critical. Is UConn on the LV's schedule for the upcoming season?

I admire Staley, particularly her ability to speak proudly of her team, her school and to a lesser extent herself, without coming across as arrogant. In Dawn's own words:
"So I agreed to the statue, not for me, but for the girl who will walk by one day and wonder who I was," Staley said. "Maybe she'll look me up. She'll see that I did some things in basketball, of course, but I hope she sees much more. I hope she sees that I was a champion for equity and equality. That in my own way, I pushed for change. That I stood proudly in the space God called me to inhabit, not as someone perfect or extraordinary, but as a regular girl who used her gifts to open doors so other girls wouldn't have to knock as hard."
It wasn’t just last year, she’s done that for years:I admire Staley, particularly her ability to speak proudly of her team, her school and to a lesser extent herself, without coming across as arrogant.
I also like her advocacy for women coaches, especially women of color, without coming across as either being preachy or accusatory. Sending snippets of the net from last year’s championship game as encouragement to other women coaches, as Peck did to her, was a nice gesture.
