Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I would agree...but...they are not a national power that commands attention during the regular season. It would be like trying to actually find a UCONN game streaming (and they are a national power). They have SYN (UCONN) but it is regional. Texas, Oklahoma and South Carolina have all the national media as providers and that is not going to happen at Texas Tech. If it happens then it will be out of loyalty, but I think they are only in the mix out of loyalty as it is.
And money. I bet Mahommes or whoever can fork over close to what she's wanting.

I wouldn’t be the first school to sign her. Very likely a player that transfers multiple times imo. Too many cooks in that kitchen.

Yeah, that whole situation is yucky to me. Any high school teen-ager who thinks so highly of herself that she thinks she's entitled to a million dollars just to sign somewhere, is a teen-ager who's ego is way too outsized to imagine her being a super teammate.

I don't care if she's prime Michael Jordan in a teen girl body, I wouldn't feed an ego that large at this young of an age. It's gross.

Word at LSU was that their other recruits wouldn't commit if she was going to commit, so that is one of the reasons they backed off. This isn't official, but it was posted by someone who tends to have accurate inside info. Also, it makes sense!

i could see some players (and their parents) being hesitant to spend their college years alongside someone they may perceive as having completely different goals and values as far as why they chose their college.

Say, for instance, one player had since she was 8 dreamed of going to a certain school and proudly wearing that uniform. Fast-forward 10 years, and now there's a girl they suspect really don't care anything at all about the university, the coaching staff or their future teammates. That girl is perceived as only caring about getting paid. Well, that might not sit well with everyone. Maybe some of these girls are turned off by that.

I really don't know.

Just letting you know Dalton Knecht is now a Charlotte Hornet, traded last night now Knecht can play alongside another Vols legend Grant Williams...

Oh, bummer. The NBA's Charlotte Hornets are similar to the W's Dallas Wings to me in that there has never even one time I thought, "I'm going to enjoy watching the Hornets game."

While I have watched the Wings, I have never watched a Charlotte Hornets game, and didn't even know Grant was on that team. So long, DK and Grant. It was fun while it lasted!

Maybe....but Mahomes has a family to take care of. If you think that a professional NBA, MLB or NFL player is going to secure the money for a WBB player in college, then you are not thinking straight. It's always limited (playing years) and they have to bankroll what they can in that time frame. None of them are going to throw their money at supporting a college player. They may support the overall program, but it will be limited also. Mahomes is smart enough to know better.

How do you think TX Tech got Canady in softball?

Every top recruit is getting paid. I wish these numbers were transparent for all to see, it would likely change some opinions on the matter.

I know that. But it *could* be that some players' personalities rub other players the wrong way if they perceive that person as caring about nothing else BUT money. See the difference?

Now, I'm not saying this is true of any particular player(s), but am saying that in my own personal experience and understanding of basic psychology, selfishness isn't usually a quality people admire in others, and extreme greed can be a red flag to some people.

I know they are all trying to get in on all this good financial action, and I don't blame them. But from things I'm hearing, some kids are coming across as caring ONLY about money.

A bit of disrespect to the SC WBB team, who have played the #1 SOS in the nation and have the top defense, and yet not one player makes the 15 finalists for the Naismith DPOTY. Wow. Watch the smoke rise from this one in Columbia. They just threw gas on the fire.

Quite frankly, I don't see the difference.

To put up the money for a transfer is totally different from paying her to play. That could very well be paying the cost of travel. Heck most people that are alumni could do that. It's not a sponsorship or money deal just some help along the way. That is a huge difference from paying an athlete a million dollars. Geez.
