Kara was an ESPN analyst for years and watched teams that coached effective modern offenses. One would have figured that she would implemented what she have seen from those teams.Unfortunate pattern fm the Pat coaching tree is inability to coach effective modern offense at a high level. Not a surprise since that’s what hampered Pat late in her career.
I honestly don’t think it’s for lack of trying with Kara and some other coaches with similar offensive issues. I just don’t think they know what to do to fix it and have it translate with the players on court during a game. It’s also probably a bit of an ego or control issue where they may not want to turn over the offensive reigns to an assistant to help fix it. Who knows, but Kara a very intelligent woman so you would think she would have figured something out by now. Seriously doubt it will ever happen at this point.Kara was an ESPN analyst for years and watched teams that coached effective modern offenses. Do you guys actually watch Duke basketball games or do you just look at box scores? The problem is that Kara until very recently has only been able to recruit kids that are not strong offensive players. This year their offense is ranked 18th by Torvik and 24 the her hoops stats. There is no systemic offensive problem other than it is hard to recruit the pieces you need for an elite offense (elite pg and elite center/forward) without a lot of NIL money. Missing wide open looks is not a systemic offensive problem. Averaging 80 points a game isn't an offensive problem. So when Duke's offense "miraculously" changes for the better in the next two years, just know NIL had a lot to do with it and not some huge overhaul of their system. I know a few other teams that have NIL to thank (in large part but not total part...lol) for their improvement, but I know that is a touchy subject around here.
The offense doesn't suck; you have a faulty premise. Now her current group has potential. However, they have not had a consistent (keyword) offensive threat that can make plays since Lawson has been there AND NIL is a big part why. The elite PG and elite centers are what are needed to reach a final four and win. NIL gives you the opportunity to get more kids that fit your system. You can be more selective and get what you are looking for. So like I said...two years from now we'll see how things shake out now that Duke has some NIL money to play with.Yes I watch, and that he’s her fault for recruiting them. If your offense sucks you don’t go recruit a defensive specialist. She’s recruiting at a high level. To say they don’t have any offensive weapons is false. They just have no idea who the effectively utilize them.
Yes, I do watch which is why I posted my comments. I’ve also coached girls basketball for 20 years, so I know a little something about coaching offense. Every time I watch a Duke game against decent competition the offense is painful to watch. That is just my opinion of what I see. Others may feel differently, and that is fine.Do you guys actually watch Duke basketball games or do you just look at box scores? I love Audi Crook's game, and I wish she would transfer somewhere with a real strength and conditioning program so she could be a force on both ends of the court. Arizona isnt even playing that quickly, and Audi isn't making it back on defense.
Thanks! I really think all forums have a small herd! What Chuckiepoo said!
Most of us are usually rational, civil sorts. We maintain a small herd of…ermm…statistical outliers just for contrast. They can be amusing.
