Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Not sure why she attempted a foul behind the 3-point line or ANYWHERE. Worse scenario the game is tied, and you go to OT. If that shot went in and SJ made a FT, then game over for UNC.
UNC had fouls to give and Banghart tells her players to foul players whenever if they have fouls to give under a minute left in the game. UNC has at lost at least two games by and almost two more by employing that strategy.

I have never seen so many missed point blank layups as Drake has against Louisville, including a wide-open one to tie the ball game with 30 seconds left. Probably have given up 12 to 14 easy points. They will not want to watch the replay of this game.
Yep, Drake ran plays, but couldn’t make layups. Louisville won on talent, mostly Van Lith’s, while JW hollered at his team in every timeout.

You can't stop Hailey Van Lith, you can only hope to contain her... !

I've watched Drake quite a bit this year, and yeah, they seemed bothered by Louisville's size, missing a lot of shots they'd normally make, especially in the second half. Tough way to lose, but they were right there in it until the very end.

Has anyone else never heard of Iona? It's early but they're giving Duke a game

The Gaels. The men’s team is coached by Rick Pitino who has led them to several NCAA tournaments. Funny note on the men’s side. If Iona had won yesterday, their opponent would’ve been St. Mary’s, also The Gaels. It would’ve been the first time in the history of men’s basketball that you would’ve had The Gaels versus The Gaels!

Just looked it up. A Gael is an Irish person (they speak Gaelic).

True. But in actuality it can also be someone from Scotland or The Isle of Man. Basically, any Gaelic nation. BTW: if you ever get a chance watch a sport called Gaelic football. It’s not quite American football, not quite rugby, and not quite soccer. However, due to regional royalties, and the Irish propensity to down a pint or two, train rides home after the game are quite “interesting.”

Reminiscent of The Quiet Man maybe.

Your take is ridiculous.

The tournament has had some upsets and close games but there were far more than four uncompetitive results. To wit, the magnitude of a blowout against clearly overmatched teams is not really a very good indicator of future tournament success. Just because some coaches decided to ease up and not administer last rights and a burial doesn't mean that their teams were not dominant. And if your barometer is going to be margin of victory then why ignore Iowa, Duke, and Texas with all three teams having won by a bigger margin than South Carolina.

Yes, we could have been treated by a wild-eyed JW loudly cursing at our players or CB chugging from water bottles endlessly as their teams struggled to eek out a narrow escape against the much-denigrated "mid-majors" in our first round game this season. Instead, we got a boring coach whose team only won by 45.
