No Schollies lost, 6 Games "vacated", 3 more years of probation for Bammer

it also means for next 3 years they are excluded from the coaches poll (rule for the coaches poll in relation to teams that are on probation). So, it will be very, very hard to get to a BCS championship game for them since they can't be ranked in the coaches poll.

Wow...that is going to leave a mark. I didn't realize that was part of the penalty. Of course a silly little thing like that will not deter Bammers from claiming an NC.

Wow, I hadn't heard that. That's a little more of a ding than it sounded like originally.

its a rule the coaches poll has. nothing to do with NCAA. Coaches decided long ago, no votes to teams on probation. not part of NCAA penalty per se. A result of the penalty though

Produce some evidence to support your claim. Until then, Boomer Sooner dispells this as bunk. OU was on probation last season and was ranked in the coaches' poll. If only everything you read on an internet message board were true.

This is a rule that is in place for teams who are not bowl-eligible.

Huh? Have y'all claimed 2 NC's for last years undefeated regular season, even with the whipping you took at the SECCG, and another at the hands of powerhouse Utah in the Sugar Bowl? Just curious, because honestly, I don't remember 'Bama winning 2 NC's since '98. Refresh my memory.

While you're there, could you pick me up a La. Monroe 21 - Alabama 14 shirt?

I think rattail's a gayter

Why does the NCAA take back wins that were earned on the field? That is pretty lame. If NCAA rules were really important then you would see a loss of scholarships, bowl bans, and million dollar fines. That is the only way to get the attention of the cheaters.

I bet that the President of UA and the athletic director does not loose any sleep over such a slap on the wrist.

I agree. This does nothing really. The team that forfiets their wins should at least have to give back the revenue earned during those games and any money earned during a bowl game they went to because of the wins they counted.

I will do research on Oklahoma situation.

While you're at it, research Ball State as well. Same situation as OU. The coaches' poll doesn't allow votes for teams ineligible for postseason play, i.e. bowl games. This is their definition of "major NCAA probation"...but it also keeps an ineligible team from possibly impacting the BCS situation. Those votes have to go elsewhere.

Bottom line - this does not apply to OU, and it will not apply to Bama.

could you share with me a link of the coaches definition of "major NCAA probation"? I would hate to take the word of someone posted on a message board. Thank you. :)

I'll continue my research on the OU situation.

Yep, seems like the Bammer Bubbas claim to have won "6,896 Nashunel Foootbowel Champinchips" in the last 56 years. They must keep up with the National Championships they claim to have won by counting all the teeth on campus in Mid October each year.

Not all here 'believe just what they want to believe'. All boards have their fair share of, dare I say it, idiots. 'You guys' have your share of them to. Unfortunately, things like this bring them out of the woodwork with uninformed opinions and dumbarse comments. Personally I could care less about 'textbook-gate' and I'm actually glad the decision will not effect your football team. Come October, win or lose, I want it to be a 'straight up' contest... Unlike many on here, I've always had respect for Bama. Good luck and may UT crush Bama in October... I mean may the best team win...

 Good post. You're absolutely right. ALL fan bases and their message boards have their fair share of the good, the bad and the ugly. There are plenty of UT and Bama fans that respect the other's university and its sports programs, its alumni and its fans. Unfortunately, not as many of the "good" frequent fan message boards or are as vocal as are the "bad" and the "ugly". I respect UT's football program and tradition and enjoy the Bama vs UT rivalry that much more when both teams are good.

I hope you guys can land Scroggins or another good QB prospect soon. Having a good QB in the class helps alot in WR recruiting. UT could use both to go with the good RBs landed in the 2009 class. Y'all got good DBs in that class too. The "biguns" (OL & DL) is what you need worst of all. Looks like a few JuCo players have committed as part of the 2010 class, adding some mature depth in the short term, which is a smart move by your coaching staff. I noticed that Mullen did that at MSU in their 2009 class. Good luck with all of your recruiting, because it's THE KEY to getting UT back to where it was -- one of the SEC "powers".

I did enough looking to know that Oklahoma certainly played for the NC last year while on probation so I asusme your assumption was correct. I failed to lcoate a definition of what that phrase on the poll meant. My assumption was obviously not correct since the Sooners were there
