PM is the best QB in the NFL, so if you disagree then you have not seen him play. How in the hell can he not be, defensive cordinators tremble because no matter what they call he just says ok (audible) and 99% of the time he is correct in the audible. He is a O cordinator on the field and with MH is unbeatable if it were not for the D. Face it, he is the man, I also respect Brett Farve and Tom Brady but not to that extent. go Colts

I respecr your side but Bill, I think hes a little better sumed up than Captain stats, I know you think deeper than that. He riped Ds apart. I am not on a banwagon, but its the truth.

You're not a Colts fan. Stop it. I still don't think it's coincidence at this point in his life that he has failed to make it all the way in college and in the pros. I don't see it happening this year, either.

with all due respect, "he" isn't the only one on that team. and "he" isn't the reason they haven't won it in Indy.

and Peyton did win an SEC championship....as much as we talk about lack of SEC titles you'd think that'd count for something?

We'll just see how it goes... But I disagree with the topic title anyways. IMO, based on years past and pending the playoffs, I think Drew Brees is the best QB in the NFL.

this year, i'd agree.

and i'm really not a Manning apologist. but it does bug me when it is always said "HE didn't do this" or "HE didn't do that".

there are 21 other startes on that team that contribute.

it was the same with Dan Marino...his big achilles heel was he never had a running game to speak of, and for Peyton, they've never had a caliber of defense to make that SB run.

both qb's are/were very good...

but in the end, that's the nature of the qb position...and it will never change.

Then I guess my position on Marino speaks volumes for me. I know he never had a good runner to back him up, but he also didn't call run plays nearly enough.

It sucks Peyton has only had one year with a good defense, but in the end, the team he's on has gotta win something. Only then will he make the jump from being captain stats to being truly great. It's the way of things. Gotta win in the end.

Seems like nitpicking (I have no position on this one way or the other) but a lot of people kind of discount it, because the Vols did not beat Florida on the way to getting that title.

But they won the SEC Championship, or did they not give out that trophy in 1997?

Seems kinda like backing into it... A championship is a championship, though. Plus I like the sweet irony that year of Spurrier taking his Gators to that famed Citrus Bowl.

the point about Florida is well taken as that is what is remembered for...never beating them.

but i wouldn't call it backiing in to it. they did have to play for the title and they beat Auburn to do it.

so from that standpoint, can't say they "backed" in to it.

i agree, and i'm one to look at championships as a barometer of gretness too.

but it can't be the only one....if that were the case then Trent Dilfer qualifies?

anyway....you're right...they should win one.

I meant that more as somebody who actually leads their team to a championship... Of course the rest of the parts have to be there. Everybody knows the Ravens' led the way, and that Trent Dilfer was one of the rest of the parts.

Brees never won anything. Also he had several bad years before the the last three good years.

Like I said, pending the playoffs. I got a feeling Saints are mobbin' through the playoffs. Got a feeling like its their year, you know? But, if they choke, I will go back to my original opinion that the best QB in the league is either Joey Harrington or Damon Huard.
