One thing I have pondered in this new era of college sports (mainly football) is, will coaches be just as apt to help players come back from injuries?

I do remember the time when an ACL tear practically ended a kids career and while not as bad, an MCL tear was not good. Take into accounts other medical problems such as shoulder breaks and tears as well. Medical technology has advanced greatly since Webb was sidelined against Pacific but, how will coaches now view the value of rehab and helping players come back from major injuries? Will they maintain high quality of medical help or just go find a replacement? If they are paying a kid like most will be, will they judge the value against what the kid is being paid?

I have not read anything related to this issue or potential issue so, I am curious. Obviously teams use the portal to improve rosters each year and many (hundreds) are left out to dry so to speak but what happens to the kids who are hurt?

Before the portal, major programs featured the next man up architect but if a player had high upside, the program did everything to help them play again.

I would think that schools would be even more incentivized to get their players healthy since they are paying them. And we have learned that it’s not easy to simply plug in play another player of the same caliber.

Look to the pro leagues for your answer, as the college conferences are now pro...

If you’re a school and players who now have more power than ever on where they can go, see that you aren’t willing to help support injured players. Say goodbye to your team. They can get paid elsewhere and they are most of the time free to leave when they want, as of now.

As I was posting my post, I thought of that. Then, I looked at the flip side as well in that would another coach/team want to tackle that risk.

Well, if anyone who read my post knew what I was talking about, knew what happened to him.

While you were at it, why didn’t you further divulge that he was drafted but because of the injury, actually retired right away?

Depends on the coach and the team evaluation. Plus the team's needs. Throw in whatever the injury is, and whatever they can find out in the era of HIPPA laws. It might get a little complex from time to time. But the most complex? Trying to read the player's mindset and those in his corner. And that part does not need much explanation to most folks here.
