Agree, athletes can now earn whatever they want in whatever amount they want as long as a business is willing to pay without regard to academic standing, performance, etc

why is that a bad thing?

It is interesting to see the amounts of $$ being offered to scholarship athletes.

However, when it is put to such good use I have to applaud those that go to this measure in sharing:

such a moving and positive story when the broadcast team does a piece on those young people and their family watching the games there.

Probably just wishful thinking but I preferred all athletes get paid a stipend in addition to scholairships. However that would take money from the schools. NIL allows boosters to do the payments.

Happened in the private school system in AL and TN in the mid 60s in my personal knowledge.

The NCAA opened up this can of worms and it can't be stopped. The NCAA is asking congress to regulate the rules regarding NIL but good luck with that.

No, EA Sports and its NCAA football video game (and other collegiate-based sports video games) opened this can of worms. The players got very wise,, and then gathered together a class action lawsuit. After the Supreme Court ruled in favor of adult, student athletes, then the NCAA had no option but to follow the established law.

Plus it's a tax write off. No different than Peyton Manning having an entire wing dedicated to him at a children's hospital. The money goes toward a good cause and it's financially advantageous. Way of the world. Grow up and deal with, or do something with yourself to earn the type of wealth that you're scorning. It's called American Capitalism, and only socialists want to deny wealth to deserving, entrepreneurial individuals.
