So I have never really bought in to the idea that recruits pick a college based on a schools apparel agreement. But I'm 30 and have 3 kids so I just buy wharever is cheapest. Well, I have a nephew who is 12 and he doesn't want to wear anything that isn't Nike.

2 questions - is there any evidence that Tennessee is missing out on kids because of addidas? Also I would be curious if anyone has compiled the final top 25 over the past few years and listed the apparel provider? I personally like Addidas gear for UT bit is it costing in the W/L department?

I doubt that they'd choose a school based on something so frivolous, but then again you never know. I just can't warm up to the idea that apparel has cost Tennessee a win at any point. Unless that apparel is orange pants.....

If they choose schools based on uniform designs, then I'd say that branding does play a factor with some.

Sounds like a disciplinary problem to me...

I see 3 questions...all of which can be answered by ONE word...

No

I highly doubt the brand has anything to do with kids choosing schools. You never know with high school kids these days tho. Nike has their name on a lot more schools then the other two that's why it seems like all the top schools are Nike schools. I don't know the ratio but if someone were to look it up I'm sure Nike out numbers the others. I could be wrong tho.

If we're losing kids because of Adidas, then so is Notre Dame, not to mention all the kids that prefer adidas that Bama is missing out on. It's a ridiculous argument and a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.

My son loves Adidas soccer apparel but wears Nike cleats. If it is not Adidas soccer apparel, it sucks and I would prefer Nike. Since we are talking football, Nike hands down.

Nike has better marketing it seems, and young people like them more (unfortunately).

UT would be just another school for Nike, for Adidas we are an important asset.

In football no it does not cost us any recruits. Maybe a preferred walk on here and there that would never touch the field. In basketball however I think we will miss out on some of the biggest names each year being an Adidas school. Just the way that sports culture is.

I disagree with the UT being just another school if we were a Nike school. Our contract might not be as big as one with Adidas, but UT has one of the largest fan bases on the country! The power T is instantly recognized across the nation and because the Vols can't rely on just recruiting in our state we are a nationally recognized brand. If we were to switch to Nike or UA or puma or any other company we would immediately become one of their top 10 if not top 5 brands in college sports.

Kids go where they feel that they have the best chance to win, and the best chance to make it to the next level. The apparel selection with each school is simply a bonus and it's not going to break or make any kids decision on where to attend college. Anyone who thinks that kids choose their college based on what line of clothing their team uses is simply fooling his or her self.

And I'll add this: if the kids does pick a college based solely on what apparel line that school has in their contract, then the kid is likely dumber than we thought and likely won't succeed academically anyway.

( side note: I'm in a bad mood today. Sorry if that seemed a little aggressive)

But we all know that Nike pays players and their teams in basketball, so why not in football? Is this something in which the NCAA has ever looked?
