Why do I have a feeling that they got a bigger deal than we did and will now be their "marquee" brand. Anybody else wondering about this?

If Adidas is paying Penn State a similar amount as the Vols when all Penn State offers is a football program that is only barely better than ours in their current states, while we offer a better mens and women's basketball team, mens baseball team, womens softball team, etc, etc, then Adidas should probably fire whoever they've got heading those decisions.

Because you're probably a pessimist and nothing is ever going your way. Who gives a rats a$$ who gets more money. UT has their contract with them and I'm sure they're happy with it.

lol no, but not for any positive reason. It's sort of how every new Wal-Mart is "the biggest Wal-Mart in America." Or every new Buc-ee's is the "biggest Buc-ee's in America." Technically correct in some cases, but it's just a sticker they slap on crap to make people feel good about themselves. And yes, that includes Tennessee and its fans. We aren't going to be any more marquee than any other big Power 2 program they end up signing. Don't get me wrong, I hate that, but then, I didn't believe that when I read it to begin with.

If they can sign more schools that work within their plan, they'll sign them. And if it makes them money, they'll keep on signing them.

"Can we say that we're your flagship program?" "Does that mean we have to do anything in particular?" "No." "Did we define "flagship program" in the contract?" "No." "Hell, sure then, go ahead and say it." "Great." "OH - wait though - don't say you're _our_ flagship program, just say that you are _a_ flagship program." "We are though, aren't we?" " ... suuuuuuuuuuure guyyyyyyyy."

Actually, IIRC, they did place language in the contract that we would be their flagship school. We will be promoted directly as such, akin to how Oregon is for Nike and Notre Dame is for Under Armour. After researching all the info I could find about the Penn State deal, there is no mention of anything pertaining to "Flagship" status. FWIW, that isn't a definitive conclusion about that issue. The one thing that was not mentioned in any analysis or press statement about the PSU deal is the ability of the university to directly control final design decisions and/or the ability to utilize in house designs, like what was included with UT's contract. IMO, that is an important allowance given to Tennessee.

Well, they’re not going to publicly release the exact figures for either deal, so you can think whatever you want.

It’s not really relevant whether Penn State’s deal is bigger than Tennessee’s or not. The only thing that matters is that Adidas offered more than $10 million more a year than Nike did. That’s the only relevant figure.
