I really think that Stephens will be the starting QB this year. I actually think he would be ahead of Crompton but do to his injury this spring he got behind. I just think Stephens is the better overall QB.

unlike other seasons I'll trust the coaches to put out the person who gives us the best chance of winning. Don't really care which one that is at this point

I agree with you 100%.

Me too. I like Crompton but he just doesn't seem to have the heart or head for it. He has looked great at times in practice but come game time he seems to just get in a hurry. Stephens has the skills and is a hot head (which I lilke but can be a problem). I liked his fire in the SC game last year but it went a little far causing him to get benched. If Nick get his emotions in check I think he will be our guy. Either way I wish them both the best and hope who ever the starter is gets the job done!

GO VOLS!! 31 more days!!!

I agree with this. They know what they are doing and I trust their judgment.

My question for you all is...if the two quarterbacks are even coming out of fall camp, why not make Stephens the starter? He at least has two years left and could use the experience.

IMO...

Physically: Stephens = Crompton

Mentally: Stephens >> Crompton

I know Stephens kind of blew up at the end of last year and was subsequently benched for it...but I believe that was out of pure frustration about the offense and not a sign of instability of lack of maturity on his part...

Crompton on the other hand...not so much...

I firmly believe he doesn't have the mental capacity or the mental toughness to take us anywhere...if the going gets tough at all I believe he'll revert back to his old self...assuming he isn't still there mentally

Also, the fact that he's a ginger may decrease a defender's desire to tackle/touch him.

Both of these post are right on with my views :hi:

I am surprised to see so many people thinking Stephens should be the starter if things are close comming out of fall work outs. I think he has a great chance and he WANTS it a little more at the moment.

I debated whether or not to go there, but in retrospect I am glad you didn't hesitate. He's a ginger, and that is wierd and kind of gross... He knows it. We know it.

That being said, at least his hair matches the uniform.

What was the extent of Stephen's blowup last year? If memory serves me, Crompton started several games and looked horrid throwing multiple picks and incompletions. Stephens looked like a solid improvement to me, then he got benched after throwing just 1 pick. I'd be upset too. On top of that, I think it was the receivers fault because he cut the route short. Wasn't it Briscoe? If it was, he certainly needed someone to get in his face. Through all of last year Briscoe seemed to be very immature and lacked work ethic. I may be remembering it wrong, but that's the way I remember last years quarterback carousel unfolding.

Thats exactly why I think they will name Stephens the starter.

I think that's an excellent point and I believe Stephens will be the starter. I get the "heebie jeebies" everytime Crompton is under center.

I don't think it was the int but the way he reacted on the sidelines to throwing it.

perhaps but my point is that even if they name Daniel Lincoln as the starting QB I think it's who they think will win us the most games. Fan evals really mean nothing to them

Don't fool yourself into thinking that Stephens is a superior quarterback. I think they might both just be AS bad as the other. Stephens just seems to have a little more of an ability to show some fire out there.
I support whomever the coaching staff thinks will give us the best shot at winning.

That is what I mean. All the great quarterbacks will get into a receivers face if they feel their not giving 100% effort. How did the coaches expect him to be a leader if he couldn't be demanding?

I look at it like this if I'm in Stephen's shoes. He finally gets his chance to start and wants to do well. Obviously he needs the help of the receivers and the rest of the team. His success or failure depends on how he performs during his one chance to be the starter during a game, but his receiver isn't giving 100% so he gets in their face. If Tebow had done that, everyone would be praising what a vocal leader he was.

There may be more to the blowup than I know about, but it just didn't seem right to me.
