Nick Stephens (merged)

I think he will be just fine, he did as good Sat. as anyone could have expected. First SEC start thrown to the fire between the hedges. No major mistakes, (bad decisions yes) seemed to have the game management under control.

No interceptions, and senses pressure and rolls out well. I think he could be like Brandon Cox at Auburn. Pretty good, but not the best. He looks like a QB if that makes any sense.

My son and Iwatched the game and he was more impressed with Stephens than I was, but after listening to his reasons, I agreed with him that Stephens has a lot of promise. I wish Cocah Cut was here to work with him this year and next. He has two more years eligibility after this season, correct?

NS is the least of our worries.
I am impressed with how he can throw the ball downfield something we didnt get with Ainge.

Looks like a servicable QB. He didn't get much time with the first team. So judging him by the way it looks now is unfair. Although i don't have much confidence in our staff teaching nick the right things.

I thought stephens played well. I think with an O line he has really good potential. I like how he stands in the pocket and goes through his reads. He played a tough Georgia team and did not have an interception and threw for 2 touchdowns. If our pathetic O line which are all about 20 pounds to heavy could get to a block and hold it then we could have run the ball more which would have setup the play action and Nick would have looked a lot better then he did. I think He is a lot better then Crompton and will do fine for the remainder of the year. He will have some confidence now and a better understanding of whats to come. Now he should not have to worry about competition and should just build on what he has started. With our O-Line we need to start working on some screen plays and moving Stephens out of the pocket and getting him some more time. He has a cannon for an arm and from the look of the pass to Taylor he looks good throwing on the run. But our Offensive Line is the weak link to this offense they are the ones that need extra practice this week.

With a running game and Good line play Stephens has the potential to be a very good quaterback. He has shown the intangibles to go with the physical skills. Plus I like how he throws that deep ball.

nobody's beating him up. He's just tempering this loint with a little judgment. The guy is south of 50% and one of those opponents was NIU.

Look at this he's a brand new QB with no running game evident by the 1 yard rushing against Georgia. He will be a very good QB for us. He didn't look rattled in his first ever SEC game against a good Georgia. Threw good and didn't take off running when his first read wasn't there.

Watching Stephens facial expressions while he was on the sidelines today said alot. This kid wants to win. If we had more players with his desire and coaches who can develop the talent we wouldn't be in this mess we are in. I hope Stephens continues to develop and get better.
Couldn't agree more.

I think he is (and will be) more than serviceable. Not saying he will ever be an elite QB but the SEC is pretty weak with QBs right now, so I think he could be in the top half of the conference. Especially if they got more/better talent around him.

show flashes of solid qb play, luv the deep ball, but could have easily had 2 picks against a respectable DB core

He did very well, considering UT had no running game and he was constantly being pressured in the pocket. Once he learns the offense and starts making better reads, he will be effective. I think UT might have a shot against Miss St, SC, Vandy, and KY if he continues to improve.

NS is much better than JC but Stephens could have easily had 3/4 int's Saturday.

If Nick is the starter the next three seasons we will not win the SEC.

I liked that TD pass he threw, running to his left throwing across his body. That's a difficult throw to make, and he rifled it.

I don't know why that guy gave a crazy face to this thread. Looks like beachvol had things pretty well pegged.
