I think this guy is gonna be pretty good. He throws a beautiful deep ball, makes pretty good decisions. you have to wonder what the coaching staff were thinking starting JC over this guy. Way to go Nick, we didn't win but you keep plugging away you played a pretty good game.:hi:

Better than Crompton. Has potential. I really wish he had played all year, then we would have a much clearer assessment of his abilities. Right now he looks great because of the alternative.

stephens played ok today. the deep ball he threw was beatiful. at the same time, though, he had 2 or 3 passes that could have easily been interceptions.

Allegedly, Clawson originally wanted there to be an open competition at QB this spring, but Fulmer kiled that idea because he didn't want to potentially have a QB controversy like we had in 2005.

My question is this...is the QB situation (playing JC for 4 games while Stephens was riding pine) indicative of the fulmer administration? Have there been better players on the bench that should've been starting for years? Have we been underachieving even when we were undefeated national champs?

The 'alleged' story is true. Chris Low reported the same thing this week. Clawson wanted it open in the spring, and wanted to go to Stephens much sooner.

Is a good player. Smart enough to throw a good deep ball and just let the fast guy go get it (love the passes to D. Moore)

The problem is not Stephens right now - it's the OL. They continue to be the most poorly coached position on the team, which is no surprise seeing that they have the 'hold-over' Adkins.

Stephens is not a great QB, but he seems to be making enough plays to keep us moving if we could run for 2 yards.

I think he did great. With time, he can only improve. It was one of the first times I have gotten excited about this season when he threw AND completed his long passes. I was almost surprised...looked beautiful.:clapping:

I think he will or can be a Andy Kelly type........not afraid to chunk the ball, win games with his arm, open up the running game, but occasionally throw into coverage and be picked off.

Today he played against one of the best teams in the country. Let's give him a week or to before pqassing too much judgement.

Almost every time stephens threw, ga was in pass defense. I thought he did great considering the circumstances:

2nd career start.
1st career road start (UGA on the road, hostile environment)
absolutely no help from the run game.
UGA pretty much pinned their ears back the entire game.
During half his passes, he had someone in his face or was getting hit.
When he had time, he played great, especially for a sophomore who before a week and half ago, never got any reps in practice.
Great job Nick, you were one of the few bright spots in the game.

I think Nick deserves a chance to be well-coached. I think he could be a reliably decent quarter back under the right coaching.

Great point, Berleim pointed out that Clawson should have had Stevens passing on first down rather than second and third long. The first play of the game was what he could do when the D isn't loading up for the pass.

Does Mark Levine-Jamal Lewis ring a bell?

stephens is no manning or shuler, but he has a fair shot at being another kelly or clausen.

Watching Stephens facial expressions while he was on the sidelines today said alot. This kid wants to win. If we had more players with his desire and coaches who can develop the talent we wouldn't be in this mess we are in. I hope Stephens continues to develop and get better.
