Wasn't even there, which surprised their 24/7 guys

Practice Notes: Dawgs practice without Nick Chubb

Nick Chubb was not at practice in any capacity today and that's a little surprising considering that most of the time when a guy is injured he is still out there getting some work on the stationary bike or doing some light jogging around the field. Kirby Smart says Chubb is dealing with a sprained ankle. When Charlie Woerner, Elijah Holyfield and Quincy Mauger had sprained ankles, they were out there every day. Not really sure what that means or if it's an indication of anything.

- While watching the running backs it appeared that Elijah Holyfield and Brian Herrien were taking turns repping behind Sony Michel. If Chubb can't go, all three of those backs figure to play a key role against Tennessee.

- The offensive line was the same today as it has been all season. It was Tyler Catalina, Isaiah Wynn, Brandon Kublanow, Lamont Gaillard and Greg Pyke from left to right. The second team was Kendall Baker, Dyshon Sims, Billy Seward, Solomon Kindley, and Aulden Bynum from left to right.

I think he might be better...both of them were 5 stars so no real dropoff.

Sony was higher on the depth chart than Chubb when they were first evaluated and likely would have had the season Chubb had his freshman campaign had not Sony gotten hurt. Michel can catch a pass and block, not strengths Chubb has demonstrated mastery of to date, yet per his fanboys here on VN, he's "great."

He's been pretty ineffective so far this season. His absence or presence shouldn't effect the game that much.

I just wonder how hard it is to psychologically come back from an injury?...maybe VFL34 or others that played can weigh in on it.

I wouldn't read too much into him not being there. If his goal is to be back Saturday then I'm sure he might as well live in the physical therapy room this week. They will stay on top of treating that ankle when he doesn't have classes. Icing, massaging, stretching, injections, etc.....

The difference between Michel and Chubb is pretty thin. UGA fans might disagree because they love themselves some Chubb. But both are elite backs. I'm not worried about Chubb. He plays or he doesn't play. Our DL is still going to have to be ready for Michel. Chubb's absence doesn't change our preparation.

You could be right but I heard, when they were playing Ole Miss, somebody on tv said he had gained 222 yards in one game so far this year?

That's pretty effective in my book if that was true.

Chubb was back 100% and had a 200+ yard game in their opener against North Carolina.

Sony Michel is equally good and has three younger brothers headed for UGA....Samsung Michel, Panasonic Michel, and LG Michel.

Wonder the effectiveness of manufacturing a possible injury report to use as subterfuge strategy so our opponents expect reserves then surprise them on game day with all starters at full strength. Has this ever been tested in combat?

Been doing it for a decade now...

Unfortunately, the youngest brother Vizio Michel doesn't quite have the talent of his brothers and is headed to Valdosta State.

Not sure I'd call 422 yards in 3.5 games ineffective. Hasn't been quite up the standard he established his first 1.5 years when he averaged about 7.5 ypc. Even though Georgia has Michel and Herrien who are both very, very good, I still hope Chubb sits this one out myself.

But Toshiba is headed to Yellow Jackets imo.
