Its not me. The mods keep playing with it. Last I saw it was a flag. Haven't posted today, so when I hit the "Post Quick Reply" button let's see if its the same ....

Why can't the mods give our buddy LG a Steely Dan avatar? I heard that when they played at the Beale Street Music Festival last weekend that Fagan was forgetting the lyrics. People at first thought it was an equipment problem but on further review he just couldn't remember the words.... :eek:lol:

Well, for me, whether they should be included as "one of" the greatest bands of the 20th century depends on how long that tributorial list would be. I tell you what, though, I'd look at anybody and say that they were one of the most innovative and unique bands of their time. Excellent songwriting, imo! Please tell me this is not some grudge-match because of the reference to the Crimson Tide in the song Deacon Blues?

I promise you the man did not forget the lyrics. He's been signing these tunes for 20 years. Even though it was the first show of the current tour, they have been on tour 2 times since '01 and so they are well versed in what they are doing.

My suspicion is that if Fagen was not finishing lyrics in a given song, its because he was trying to hear the rest of the band. He and Becker are well-known perfectionists and as this was their first show and they had added in a couple of new tunes, my money is on Fagen really being focused on how well they were doing with the music.

As clever as their lyrics are, both Fagen and Becker have been quoted many times as saying that the lyrics have always been meant by them to complement the music, not the other way around.

And down here we are paying dearly for that privilege. My tix were $100 each and that is in the "second" tier of seating. They sold out three months ago upon going up for sale and in just 20 minutes.

Deacon Blues is one of the greatest songs ever. Add into that Do It Again, FM, Hey 19, Rikki Don't Lose that Number, Peg, Reelin in the Years, Josie, Bad Sneakers, Evertything Must Go, Babylon Sisters and on and on and on....

Just got back from the Dan show in Hotlanta. They rocked! Whatever "technical difficulties" they experienced if any in Memphis have been ironed out. LG, you're in for one hell of a show tomorrow night.

For the final encore, they played Bodhisattva ... at full tempo. Bad @ss. Keith Carlock barely broke a sweat.

Like LG, I payed $100 a ticket for the second tier seating in the amphitheatre, but it was worth every penny.

I went to a Steely Dan concert in DC in '72 that was presented in the round. That's all I have to say about that.
