"When Jerry Richardson, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, is their lead negotiator for the owners, and he's going to criticize Peyton Manning and Drew Brees and their intelligence in our meeting on Saturday. And sit there and say dismissively of Peyton Manning, 'Do I need to help you read a revenue chart son, do I need to help break that down for you, because I don't know if you understand how to read that.''

That was followed by a report on Yahoo.com that cited anonymous sources who described Richardson as "extremely condescending to them, especially toward Peyton."

Peyton's a jock, but he is far from a dummy.

Don't have to be a dummy to struggle with finance. U seriously doubt he struggled with revenue charts, but finance can get heady.

The owners are intent on changing and getting the Collective Bargaining Agreement that they want, Peyton Manning be damned.

Now that's how you get a deal done. The ole “openly mock one of the best players in the game” trick. Works every time.

Unfortunate but this is a good thing for the players as well as PM. He will learn from this and because of his nature will return better equipped to deal with Billionaires who in all likelihood would wipe the floor with any NFL player when it comes to the "business" of the NFL... That said, the players are the league.

I'd like to hear peyton's reaction to this

Plus I'd like to see this guy's entire football team play against Peyton... by himself

Peyton is Peyton and will go down as possibly the best to ever play. This guy's franchise drafted Jimmy Clausen. Enough said.

Dude, he got a degree in finance in 3 years and started classes for an MBA before he left UT.

Just an epically bad move from a PR standpoint.

It shouldn't be a PR move one way or the other. It should be behind closed doors. The fact that the employees are even sitting down to review what the owners are making is pathetic. The players (employees in Pro Sports) have been given way too much power and way too much money.

NO NO NO !!!! ALL Football players are mindless berserkers !!!! Don't you know anything ?
Both PM and DB needed something like this for their personal growth. Neither will play forever and both will have careers after football. This will prove invaluable for their study of the off field game.

Bone Head move by the owner of the worst team in the league....shows what he really thinks of all players.

His presumption that it wouldn't go public was retarded.

It shouldn't have though. I agree that it would be stupid not to think so but how many normal meetings between Owners and employees go public? You can be the biggest fan of Manning in the world, not saying you are personally, just to the general posters, but at the end of the day he's just another employee.

Like Michael Jordan was just an employee of the NBA and Albert Pujols is just an employee of MLB? And don't the employees make more in the CBA than the owners?
