The only other college football stadium I have been to is Kentucky's which was not very impressive. My question is how does Neyland compare to the other big time college stadiums from people that have been there? Thanks and Go Vols!

Generally larger, but also generally quieter.

The real question here is: How do other stadiums compare to Neyland! The only reason it's been kinda quiet (up to this season) is because the product has been subpar. When the Vols are truly back it'll be business as usual, meaning that the TV cameras will be vibrating so badly that the picture won't be in focus....

The only other stadium in the SEC that I have been to is South Carolina. I was there last year, which made this weekend's win that much better. I was very disappointed. Not so much with the stadium, but the surroundings. The stadium is in the middle of an industrial park, or so it seemed.

The tailgating was very weak, however, the atmosphere of the game was not bad. Partly because it was a night game and they did a blackout, but mostly because they dominated Tennessee from beginning to end. Was one of the worst gameday experiences all around for me. But I shouldn't have expected anything less coming from USCjr.

Neyland >>>>>Williams-Brice

I live in Seattle, and attend a University of Washington game every now and then. Husky stadium is pretty consistantly considered one of the better stadiums out West. It doesn't hold a candle to Neyland!

I've also been to a few Seahawks games at Qwest. This stadium is well known for having more opposing false start penalties than any other since 2004, yes it's very loud, but again, Neyland blows it away.

I'd really like to see Hamilton consider adding a triple deck at each end (plenty of stadiums across the country have triple decks), so that they level off with the press boxes/luxury suites.

2 things it would do...put us back on top as the largest stadium in the country (was a big recruiting draw...something to really hang our hats on), and provide an additional barrier to keep the noise in.

To make sure that we fill those additional seats, the ticket prices need to come down. With this team back in the thick of things in the SEC, they could sell 130,000...because TV just can't compete with the gameday atmosphere at Neyland.

The new stadium in Dallas has SEVEN decks.

That's why I think, between the current rennovation plans and adding a third deck at each end would not only make Neyland appear more ominous and imposing to visiting teams, but it would make the Swamp look like the trash heap it really is.

I've been to Bryant-Denny, Jordan-Hare, Ben Hill Griffin, and Sanford stadium as well as a few places out of the SEC such as the Rose Bowl, Kenan Stadium(UNC), and a few others. Neyland is bigger than all of them and just as loud for a big game, if not louder. The top two stadiums for crowd noise are definitely Neyland and Bryant-Denny. Ben Hill Griffin can get pretty loud but doesn't most of the time and not up to Neyland or Bryant-Denny's level. As far as concession and concourse areas go, Neyland is pretty nice especially with the new facade it is getting and the terrace. However, around the student section areas Neyland is quite outdated, very dark and cramped. But it's awesome!

I don't think that will be happening any time soon considering the athletic department just put an $8 million jumbotron on one side. Also there is no way Neyland could structurally support 3 decks unless some MAJOR re-structuring took place.

Talked to an Auburn fan at work who claims to have been to every stadium in the SEC to watch a game.

He said the game he went to at Neyland was against a nobody years ago so it wasn't very loud, but he could see how it could be completely crazy for a night game against a Florida or Bama. He said the tailgating is on par with the rest of the SEC, but not the best...but the setting with the stadium on the river is bar none, the best in the conference. He also said that while it comes across as massive, it is deceptive because of how many people they cram in. His biggest complaint was seating room, but he is around 250 lbs....

...just what he said, take it for what its worth.

I've been to several games at Sun Devil Stadium @Arizona State - Sun Devil games, Arizona Cardinals (before the new dome was built), 1998 National Championship game, and the 1999 Fiesta Bowl against Nebraska (rather not remember that one). I've also been to the Superdome - 1990 Sugar Bowl and the Georgia Dome - 1998 SEC Championship Game.
IMO, nothing compares to being at Neyland Stadium. The energy and noise-level are second-to-none when the crowd is getting rowdy. I wouldn't mind going to a game at a Michigan or Ohio State at some point just to see how they stack up.

Neyland is the home to my beloved Vols. Therefore, it will always be #1 to me.

The ammenities/concessions/restrooms are nicer at Sanford, Bryant-Denny, Ben Hill Griffin to name a few. Hopefully, Hamilton can raise the money to continue the renovations around the south and east sides to correct this problem.

Seating is much tighter than other SEC stadiums.

The renovations can't get here soon enough for the outside.

That being said, when you bring someone to Neyland for the first time, they are usually blown away.

I have been to Sanford stadium and the Georgia Dome. Neyland has a very neutral annoucer and jumbotron. At Sanford the annoucer encourages to crowd to get loud on 3rd down and the jumbotron runs a "GET LOUD" phase every time the visiting team comes the the LOS. Sanford also seems very "dark", all the black and red with Metallica, AC/DC and "Fade to Black" by the Rolling Stones blaring on the PA. The stadium looks very modern and spacious. The GA Dome is a classic corporate type stadium. Very bland with no personality to it. BTW never get upper deck seats all you will see is an orange dot on the field.

I don't think it's going to stay quite much longer. With around 80,000 by all accounts by Mr. "They Told me a lie :cray:" Jimmy Hyams. That was the loudest I had heard it in a long time when they came busting out with the Black Jerseys.:good!: Good Times are here. Great Times are coming soon!:w00t:

I've witnessed games at Kenan, Carter-Finley, Dowdy-Ficklen, Williams-Brice, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, Princeton, Dartmouth, and Cornell. I will say that Neyland is unequivocably the top rated stadium in my book. The tailgating at USCe is better than Tennessee but the atmosphere on the strip blows away any else that USCe offers (the Cockaboose railroad ain't s**t!). I do give props to the ECU faithful who rock Dowdy-Ficklen. For a stadium of less than 50k, it is noisy. Kenan is as quiet as a graveyard and Carter-Finley is not far behind. The Ivy League schools are a wholly different animal and should be judged on their own merit.

I've been to Clemson, South Carolina, and Notre Dame. Notre Dame is a nice place to go just to see, the stadium is just alright. Clemson looks like it's all from the 70's/80's hasn't been full in the last 2 yrs i've been there, South Carolina's is a lot better kept up than Clemson, just nothing wow about it. It does get pretty loud at times but there is just no wow factor.
