Per UT website and now published in FTIT. Enjoy the final season as the largest SEC stadium. Bama has begun expansion of south endzone upperdeck, which will put them over 101,000 starting in 2010.

I cannot believe this.

I'll sacrifice the capacity for the upgrades we're getting. Haven't you heard...it's not about who's bigger anymore.

Bama wont get that expansion by then

Uhm, well, yes they will. They've already begun, and will play their first game in front of 101k vs. Penn State as the home opener in 2010. They are promoting this, understandably so.

Their old jumbotron has already been taken down, and pilings are being put in now, as I understand it. The south endzone will be a mess this fall for the Vols' visit.

Seriously . . . Is it putting a dent in Florida, Georgia or LSU's recruiting that their stadiums hold 90,000 instead of 100,000?

It is the only thing we have been able to hang our hat on though. :cray:

I think this matters. UT has always had the biggest stadium in the SEC and in the entire south. My first year of college (96) UT had the biggest in the country. To think we have gone backwards so Hammy can collect more money. If this happens it will hurt recruiting as you always hear recurits talk about Neyland being so big.

I fail to see how this hurts our recruiting. We'll still find a way to cram 105,000 in for the biggest games anyway.

i would rather have 150k of bleacher seats than 90k of box seats.

But at the same time, it's a definite "home field advantage" if our fans are into the game. So i'm almost ambivalent about the capacity lowering.

Tennessee needs to get going and expand Neyland Stadium, to make it the biggest in the country. Adding about 15,000 more seats would be enough to put it ahead of Michigan, etc. Hopefully, they are getting the plans and money together. They can just raise the sales tax for a few years to pay for it, and issue bonds.

I don't think it will have any effect on recruiting. however, you jacklegs acting like its just ho-hum, no big deal, are kidding yourselves. The size of Neyland has been a huge deal for UT for a very long time. Being the biggest in the south was a major point of pride.

You are aware that a major construction project is underway, which is designed to DECREASE capacity, correct?

Whatever. You can act like it wasn't any big deal all you like. You know it was to the entire program.

You are correct. During the past 10 years of sucktitude I have always been able to zing my rival friends with, “nanny nanny boo boo; we have a bigger stadium than you”. It has worked especially well the past couple of years against my FL and AL friends. Shuts them right up.

Obviously it was not a big deal to the entire program because the folks who run the entire program are decreasing seating capacity.

Just give me some leg room please!

Pride to the fans who would have been fans anyway. It's just something Tennessee fans make important because they have it....

It doesnt really matter as long as you have a decent capacity, its all about the excitement of your fans, I hate the gators and lsu but those fans know how to make some noise. Even Va Tech on a Thursday Night is louder than our fans.
