I know we've had these conversations about Clay Travis before, but he attended his first UT game,(OF THE YEAR) last week against Bama. He basically said in person, the chaos on the sidelines was much worse than he thought, anarchy I believe he called it. I didn't see that at the first 2 games I attendedd, but has anyone else seen that?

He was ask if there was one person that stood out to him from looking at the game on saturday against bama. And he said yeah, the coaching staff. He was suprised to see how disorganized and how much chaos he seen on the TN sidelines.
and he was ask if this is the worst TN team he has every seen. He said "Yes. And this is the worst coaching staff."

Clay Travis attended his first UT game last week vs. Bama? I need a source to see that. Even though I don't like/agree with him usually, he is a self-proclaimed HUGE UT fan. His book "On Rocky Top: The End of an Era" is his first hand account of being involved with travelling with the team specifically to write the book. I'm certain he's been to MULTIPLE games before.

Let me make sure I understand--last week was the first game Travis attended? Ever, or this year? He's been an expert at telling CDD what he's done wrong so I'm sure he's been there several times this year.

And has he ever been on the sidelines before? It's always chaos.

He's a blabbering idiot but he gets people to talk about him so I guess he is accomplishing his lofty goal in life.

i didn't mean first UT game ever.... They said it was the first game he's attended this year.

Which was completely obvious by what you wrote. They're just trying to give you a hard time - grasping at straws.

He spent the entire year in 2008 on the sidelines, so he likely has more perspective than you.

Ok, well that makes more sense. You left that part out. About the chaos on the sidelines. I think alot of it is coaching jitters. I think the staff isnt quite gelled together yet. It will come. This program will become closer as a whole as time goes on.

If you'd tuned in earlier, it wasn't obvious. Note that the OP's comment was edited to include: (OF THE YEAR)

That wasn't in his original post, which is why we were 'grasping at straws.'

next question should have been whether he would even know what an organized staff looks like. After all, his claim to fame is following Fulmer around while writing a book

Hopefully, someone like Clay Travis isn't allowed anywhere near the sidelines. But there does seem to be a lot of chaos, and sometimes, the players do look confused. There are a lot of contributing factors, but we are not a confident, pulled-together team.

FYI - I read it before the edit and picked it up right away.

After Clay Travis wrote "On Rocky Top," spending a whole season on the sidelines, you mean to tell me it wasn't obvious this wasn't the first UT football game of his life? Come on, man. The dude's just telling what CT said.

If the problem is that the players are confused, we need to simplify the play book. Id rather them make smart and quick decisions then not knowing what the hell to do every other play.

I'm just suprised to hear him say the worst coaching staff. Unfortunatly Will wasn't specific about wether he meant in UT history or worst staff he's ever seen in his lifetime. Coaching changes take place every year, at tons of schools, and coming from a Vol fan that has extensive knowledge of College football, call DD and staff the worst. Kinda sucks to hear it on the radio.

I definitely don't believe they're the worst. I'm sure DD will work on the sideline ethic... I was just hoping to hear something about our unsportsmanlike penalty from a player who wasn't even dressed out. There should have been some discipline there.

What exactly did he do? I remember hearing bob kesling say that was the irstt time h'd seen that happen. Did he interfere with a play, or was it just something he said?

Just heard travis on sports animal and he is an absolute tool. He had the nerve to say he was a vol fan and then proceeded to bash our staff. Also bashed our recuits. If he can't see the state our program was left in and recognize that dooley is recruiting kids that are talented plus smart, then he should have his media credentials revoked. Absolute biggest idiot I've heard so far.

Hes just like 65% of the posters on this board. As a UT fan, we arent used to less than mediocre, or even just mediocre. Its hard to deal with. Everyone deals with it in their own way. I myself am going to give CDD and staff a few years before I judge though.

Is anyone disagreeing that there is more than occasional chaos on our sidelines? I figure Dooley already knows and is working on it. It should be better by 2011. Sometimes accurate introspection is helpful.

"sideline discipline" DD's next great quote in the making.

I agree, but his opinion is on air and more available for a recruit to here. If he was a fan at all, he wouldn't basically call the staff bumbling idiots on the radio. I usually don't post or complain because I believe I have a realistic understanding of what to expect from our current team. I wanted to jump through the radio and lay hands on this guy. In his position I expect him to understand the sport, but I am obviously assuming to much. I see enough gloom and doom on here, I really don't want to hear it on a local station.
