It's just a poll but this is something I've been watching for, for some time now. Obama's star burned very brightly but don't some of you wonder if it would start to fade at some point. TennNC or Emain tell me if you think he could suffer from overexposure.

He has suffered from overexposure and his suit keeps getting emptier as it happens, but his little blip will do little but help him raise truckloads more cash from the scared wealthy socialists.

He certainly could, right now it is just the negative campaigning working for McCain.

you don't think who Obama is and people beginning to figure him out has something to do with this shift, if a shift exists.

Why is the negative campaigning not working for Obama?

I think the implied racism has hurt him with undecided white men and women. For someone so different the thinly veiled accusation had a very negative effect.

intersting that all the negative stuff that's going on, obama is only 3 points ahead to 5 points behind. how badly would he be getting beat if our economy was doing well.

I think the shift is a bit overstated. I am somewhat with you on polling, although I have said before that I think the state by states are a better indicator of where this race is at the moment. The daily trackers are absolute garbage.

you seriously don't think it has anything to do with the candidate and what he stands for?

Not especially, unless you see something in the numbers I don't. When Obama starts really taking a hit with democrats, then you might have a point. It could also be a product of McCain shoring up the "undecided" conservatives.

I still think a large % of those responding do so because of what they think of the candidate, not what the latest round of advertising and media tripe led them to believe.

I would like to see his favorable/unfavorable, that could be telling. I will do some more research into that later. I think the vast majority of the voting public is terribly underinformed right now.

underinformed regarding Obama for sure. That helps him dramatically. The more information that pours in and the more he has to think through a debate, etc., the less he is going to be adored.

The McCain record is out there and has been for many, many moons.

That's part of it, but the Republicans are very good at this, they hit hard and early. That is why they win elections.

Perhaps Dems lose because they are whiny. :)

Or at least not in touch with reality - how can you not see that both parties are adept these tactics.

The truth is, if you don't live in a state like NC, Va, Nevada, Ohio, Colorado, then your vote is basically useless. Trite, but it's all about the swing states.

The Dems should get some help from "get out the vote" efforts - they've registered way more people than Republicans have this time around, especially in Ohio, VA and NC.

But I'd like to go into the election with a cushion, and the next few weeks will determine the election. Does Obama sit back and take it or stand up and fight? Here's one suggestion:

My vote counts and I won't vote for either of them, nice!
