Do you think we will see any different players starting the USM game?


I think its fairly obvious that Berry will be starting somewhere in the secondary for the rest of the year. I wouldnt be surprised if Mckenzie got the start as well to be the SS and 8th man in the box to help against the run. I liked hv's idea of putting Berry at FS Mckenzie or Willingham and safety with Hef at one corner and Gaines/Johnson at the other side. I also hope someone steps up and takes Briscoe's spot.

Berry at corner, McKenzie at safety, O'Neal/Vinson taking Briscoe's spot.

If Gerald Jones is healthy, I expect him to get some PT

I wasn't impressed with Jarrod Parrish. It took me awhile to even realize he was in the game.

I would also like to see Myers-White get a chance in Karls spot. I was very dissapointed in the was Karl played.

I'm not so sure Gaines or Parrish should be starting. The d-line will probably be rotated for awhile too until someone steps up

Berry for sure. We should at least try to place him at FS; if it does not work, he will still be the All-American CB.

(at least)one of the Two JUCO will have to step earlier than the coaches expected because our secondary just SUCKS right now.

There must be some rotation in DL, Karl (and maybe Rico) should step down.

Vinson or Jones could provide some deep threat for us. Our current WR can't.

These are my new starters for UT

CB: Berry: He proved it he's a def. starter
CB: M. Johnson: He got that pass interference call against him that was questionable.. (especially to what Cal's DB's were doing to Vinson). But he played ok, and he was covering Jackson alot of the time.

Safety: Heffney: Of coarse
Strong Safety: I really hope Nevin McKenzie gets the start.. even tho he didnt make a tackle.. Jarod Parrish didnt really do anything the whole game but running around like mad..


WR: i still think Rogers and Taylor will be the top two WR's.. they played pretty solid.. But i think Briscoe will drop down to the #6 WR spot, while Hancock moves to the #3 spot, and Morre goes to the 4th spot.. While O-neil gets that 5th spot.. I think Vinson will eventually pass Briscoe too.. and G. JOnes.. Briscoe is just to slender to be a big play guy.. he always gets tackled by the first guy that touches him..

DE: IM pretty sure Robert Ayers will take over X-man's spot.. He actually did some positive things in the game.. he almost had that interception where he batted the ball up.. but im pretty sure he'll start in Xavier's spot until he gets back.. and when X-man does get back i think Ayers will start anyways over A. Reynolds.. I didnt see anything positive come from Antonio Reynolds. i didnt even hear his name mentioned once!

I'm sure I'll catch crap for this, but Karl wasn't the LB missing tackles, taking bad angles and getting bullied all night...neither was Rico.

And not to be argumentative, BUT did Berry show he can cover D1 talent or simply tackle? I'm not saying he can't cover, but it's usually not good when the CBs have all the tackles.

My Question is does anyone think Eric Berry may play any other key positions at TN. If he is as good as they say will he be a game breaker someday or just stick to the D side of the ball

To be honest, I was disappointed with every Sr on defense last night. Tell me out of Hefney, Parrish, Gaines, Karl, Mapu, Mitchell, and Reynolds, who had a good game? Not a single one of them. The only DE that looked halfway decent was Ayers. Bolden and Williams looked okay in the middle. Mayo held his own. McCoy had some good plays, and some very poor ones(hitting Jackson at the 4 instead of going for the ball carrier?). The only DB that looked good was Berry, though I'd take Johnson, McKenzie, and Willingham over Parrish or Gaines.

I wasn't all that impressed with Berry. Maybe I just missed some things. He seemed good for a freshman, but I'm not seeing why some are calling him an All-American. He never caught him running around in a circle like some of the other DB's so that's good. The linebackers got blocked really bad, but so did pretty much every Vol on D and special teams. I don't get it. This isn't a young team. The Vols shouldn't look the way they did last night.

Eric Berry was in on every play and he wasnt shying away from anything...He has earned a spot somewhere in the DB

I also think Mckenzie should get a look at SS...Parrish looked lost most of the time

On Berry, anyone who can wrap up and make an open field tackle looks like All-SEC on that defense.

Fulmer needs to start putting his best athletes on special teams, particularly punt and kick returns. I thought that would have been a given after last year. I don't care if 3rd stringers gets a football letter to bring home to momma.

i second that HV!! i also like ur lineup at Heffney at CB with M. Johnson/Willingham at the other CB.. and Mckenzie at SS and Berry at FS!
I'd much rather watch Berry, McKenzie, and Willingham learn and improve from their mistakes and get better for the future than watch Gaines and Parrish play as Seniors and get schooled every time the ball comes their way. WHile they play supposedly "SOOO GOOOD" in practice.. If Parrish or Gaines doesnt step up In SMU, then MckENzie and Berry are def. gonna be tha full time starter..

btw, why didnt i see Mckenzie get alot of Playing Time?! was he not out there very much, or did i just miss him.. i dont even remember seeing him once!

0 snaps on defense which is complete bull...Parrish is playing because he is a senior and Im freaking tired of Phil playing upperclassmen becuase they are upperclassmen...

You do know that they took Parrish out to put Berry in dont you? I would bet that we will see quite a bit of Mcenzie next week

Yea i do, and dont get me wrong i think Berry did a fine job at a very difficult position, on the road and as a true freshmen but....Id like to see him at corner and McKeznie at SS

Oh i agree. I was wondering why they did that myself. Maybe Mckenzie still doesnt have all the coverage down.

Aside from Ben Martin do have any other freshman d-lineman?

OMG! Mckenzie didnt get ONE PLAY AT ALL! i thought he at least got some PT!! OMG, now im super duper pissed.. he's our best power tackler.. he coulda layed that Forsett dousche out!! and we didnt even play him one down.. OMG!
he betta get alotta snaps against SMU!
