SIAP - sincrely. But I woke up this morning and read that the NFL wants to ban RBs from lowering their heads on runs..........seriously. The game is on its way to becoming a glorified two hand touch.

looks like we will down as one of the lamest generations in history. We suspend kids for having pop tarts, water guns & Hello Kitty Bubble guns now this. This is what football is about.

Yesterday I read that Hurd's main problem is that he runs too straight up. Perhaps he doesn't need to learn to keep his head down.

I think it's the exact opposite. We're the generation lucky enough to have advances in technology to enable us to not do stupid things to wreck our quality of life. Football has incrementally gotten less trench warfare-like and less about brute force as time has gone on. Our Grandpas spoke fondly of the flying wedge which got outlawed because it killed people. Our Dads thought opening up the passing game would kill the sport. This too is just another evolution of the game before our eyes.

As I think about it, the power back concept has been disappearing anyway. D-lines are just too good to play road grader style football anymore. 3rd and 2 has become almost an automatic passing down in the NFL.

Looks like tuck rule may be out too. Does anybody ever know another instance of it being used other than when the raiders got screwed?

I have seen countless plays pretty much identical since that are always ruled a fumble. All I have seen is the arm going forward rule where the ball is already out of the qbs hand. Brady clearly had the ball. Just saying I can't think of a single instance where the tuck rule has been enacted since.

wonder why the NFL isn't going to take away the ability of a ball carrier to stiff-arm a defender to the ground by grabbing his facemask

I like this rule. I saw too many times this past year a WR lower their head trying to draw a helmet to helmet. They are sacrificing themselves for 15 yards. To me it's not just leading with the helmet, you can lead with your head up, facemask front and be fine. It's leading with the crown of the helmet.

If the NFL keeps on they will destroy the sport that we all love, im all for safety but the NFL is try to take hitting out of the game, if Roger keeps this up with all the new rule changes it will destroy the sport, people going to get hurt this is football, like driving a car there is going to be wreaks, and in football people is going to get hurt thats the nature of the game, last year Roger talked about doing away with the kick of think about it no kick of, that would be like moving the picture mound in baseball if he keeps it up he will destroy the game that we love.

With GA on this one. The sport is infinitely more wussified than sixty years ago, yet it is the most popular sport in the country. People will complain but mostly everybody will adjust and keep watching.

wonder if there was this much handwringing when the clothesline tackle was banned

I'm honestly in disbelief about the RB rule. That's one of the main ways of breaking tackles is lowering your shoulder/head and bulldozing people.


I bet there will be a ton of penalties called this year. No back in their right mind is gonna just run straight up to get demolished..their instincts will kick in and they will lower their shoulders like normal.

The question is this:


Can they lower their head to protect themselves? If they can, then okay. If not......uh-oh.

From what I read rbs can still lower their shoulder and head to brace/break tackles. The NFL realizes one goes hand in hand with the other.

I think what their addressing is the intentional spearing some rbs do.

Jim Brown. Earl Campbell. Jim Taylor. Jamal Lewis. Larry Csonka. Franco Harris. Marcus Allen. John Riggins.

These legends would be mere afterthoughts in this NFL. Ridiculous.
