First off, let me say that I have always been very fond of Fulmer, but it is time for a change. There are two names I'm thinking of. The first is Butch Davis from UNC. He is the perfect choice. A second name is Mike Gundy from Oklahoma State, however that is his alma mater. Butch would absolutely get things turned around quickly.

Welcome to the board. :hi:

Just a reminder, we have a nifty tool called search. You might want to get acquainted with it so you don't wander where your post went. If you can't find your thread after it has been posted for a couple of minutes then use the My Posts up top to find it. The merge patrol is in full force here. :hi:

I'd take Butch, but I dunno if he is going to leave UNC just yet.

Mike Gundy would light a fire under somebody, but I don't know if he is even an option? Haven't heard. I like him, though. He's done a job.

Butch Davis will be hard to get seeing what he's building in NC but I could see Gundy coming here. He recruits the type of players I like fast playmakers.

I really like coach Fulmer as a person. I even went to several of his football camps when I was in high school. However, I think its time to let him resign with class and take a similar role with the university that Barry Switzer has with Oklahoma. I would also like for Johnny Majors to shut his mouth. I think that there is plenty of Fulmer bashing out there, that we don't need his two cents.

I have thought about this a bit and I would not mind seeing the Vols go after Bronco Mendenhall, the current coach at BYU. He has been the head coach at BYU for 4 seasons. He was 6-6 in 2005, 11-2 (8-0 in conference) in 2006, 11-2 (8-0 in conference) in 2007 and is currently 6-0 in 2008. Urban Meyer came from the Mountain West Conference, why not raid that conference again? Would be currious on everyone else's thoughts...

After reading the board throughout the season I have finally decided to join to express my own thoughts.

First, my thoughts on everyone wanting Kiffin to be HC if Fulmer is to be replaced...NO! After being around Kiffin at SC, I would be very upset if he was to come here. I know Al Davis is old and crazy but everything he said about Kiffin was true. The players and other coaches did not like Kiffin while at SC. And I wouldnt wish what happened to him on anybody but Karma is a B!T{#. If you want someone with almost the same experience as Kiffin (other than Raider experience) Sarkisian is your man. He is the one that put in the work at SC. Sark could come in here and do much better than Kiffin. AND STOP giving Kiffin credit for recruiting at SC. LA recruited all of those out of state kids and the others preffered to stay home. No competition on the west. And kids love to play for Pete Caroll.

Next, my thoughts on UT Football this year. I believe just like many of you that a change needs to be made. I think UT can be ok if they changed coordinators and kept Fulmer. However I dont think the coaches are the only ones. Has anyone noticed how our players havent lasted in the 4th qtrs? And that they dont seem to translate their strength from the weight room to the field? After seeing Carlisle (Who I believe is the best NCAA strength coach) in action and seeing this, there is a difference. Does anyone see a difference between before Long was the head strength coach and since he has been the head strength coach. SC has always had freshman come in ready to play and the players translate their strength to the field. (They seem to fall off after they leave USC though. lol) Sorry so much SC talk but thats what I experienced. However, player development seems to be the biggest issue here at UT. There is plenty of talent but the coaches dont know how to use it. And Clawson's staff needs to go. Not saying any names but I know of a statement made by one of them saying he has so much talent he doesnt know what to do with it.Therefore, NEW STAFF!

If Fulmer is to be replaced I would want a proven HC but there are some good coordinators out there. And I dont believe there is a shot at Davis, Gruden, Cowher, or Carroll. Unlike many, I think with the right coach UT shouldnt have a slump with the talent here. Just dont bring in a BS offense. I think we need someone with a pro style offense as OC. But in the SEC I believe the team needs to be strong on D. But I love O! We gotta put up more points! And those Big 12 vs SEC battles. Stop it. BIG 12=Offense SEC=Defense. Defense always wins. The big 12 would not put up those points here. This would be my top 5.

1. Will Muschamp (Texas DC)
2. Kyle Whittingham (Utah HC)
3. Brent Venables (Oklahoma DC)
4. Bronco Mendenhall (BYU HC: Mormon?)
5. Steve Sarkisian (USC OC)

I would love Butch Davis to come in but I just think he likes where he is at with UNC.

I like Gundy but thinks he will stay at Okie State being his school. But Maybe he would. (i.e: Rich Rod)

And bring in Al Wilson to be LB coach!

*If Sark comes he could bring in Ed Orgeron who has proven to be a great recruiter and DC.

Sorry so long, had a little to get off. :)

Lockdown, what do you mean hard to get. No matter what happens in Carolina, they will always be a basketball school. These guys want to be the top dog on campus. This is also a far superior conference that pays the highest in the nation.

Good point. I'm not against it. I'm just looking at the great athletes he has started to get and lack of pressure at the current venue. But he does have an ego that needs to be stroked.

I dont mind Majors shooting off at the mouth. He devoted much of his life to UT, had some problems and got pounced on by his pal.

It might not be proffesional or status quo but at least its funny.
