Word from this board, rockytop.com and OM is that a new player support letter is possibly in the works, in support of Coach Fulmer. Everyone here knows how I feel about the coach so I wont dive into all of that. On a serious note, what does it say about the state of our program and the overall feelings towards its future when there will be two letters written to Hamilton and/or the KNS within 2 years by former players basically saying "pretty please, he can still get the job done." I dont know if this has ever happened anywhere else but here? We are a very dysfunctional fanbase, team and program right now.

Exactly. It's simply pathetic that a group of former players feel obligated to band together to write a letter of support for the coach because the state of the program has gotten so bad that the fans are voicing their displeasure in the product. Maybe the ex players think no one knows football except them.

i really don't know how you can justify writing a letter to defend fulmer and the horrible product on the field. the guy hasn't done much in ten years. imo this makes the program look worse.

Nothing would surprise me. But come on its a rerun, and no phil can't still get the job done. I don't care if peyton writes the whole thing himself.

I had similar feelings when Peyton was interviewed on the sideline at the Auburn game on CBS. The whole interview seemed awkward and scripted rather than sincere. It may not have been that way, but I just got the feeling that ole Phil had invited Peyton down to go on national TV in his support.

The former players obviously arent paying attention to whats going on. They remember the way it used to be.

We never would have had the success we did if Fulmer didn't connect with those players. So I am not surprised that they would be sympathetic for him. However, I don't think the 2nd letter will have anywhere near the same effect as the 1st. And the 1st one didn't do too much for me. If former players feel the need to write a letter to save your job, then clearly you need to be fired.

To little to late, only a win against Bama could save Fulmer, but even then it would probably be too late.

If this is true about the letter of support redux, then it will be IMO tangible proof that Fulmer is in deep doo-doo with people who count. They would not try this again so soon unless they thought it was absolutely necessary to pull out all the stops. The end may be near.

Let me say this, if Peyton's name even appears on this next letter, he will be on the wrong sideof public sentiment for the 3rd time in 4 years, not only did he support Fulmer last year, but he openly supported Buzz before he was fired. IMO, his legacy will be tainted by this fiasco, also.

No player should sign this letter otheer than Overstreet and Robert Peace.

No way. His legacy isn't going to be tainted because he supports the coach he played for.

I am hoping for a vote of confidence from the AD. Lately it is aka...the kiss of death.

I understand (well not really) how the '98 team would still be attached to Fulmer and support him, but damn. They really need to look into his career since they left.

I'm beginning to believe it actually is all literally scripted. I've heard Peerless Price, Tee Martin, Peyton Manning, and one other former Vol who's name escapes me all say almost verbatim the same thing.

And quite frankly this time it's even more pathetic because the "reasons" they give are just....bad.

Unless there's 105,000 former players willing to buy tickets...I think Phil's in a world of trouble...
