It looks to me like basically the 4-3 that we run, but there is always one or 2 extra and you never know which is coming. You might have a LB coming while a D-lineman drops back into coverage. It creates all kind of problems for the offensive line because they are unsure who to block, and the QB never knows which direction the rush is coming from. I dont remember where I saw this, but I loved it. Kinda like the "prowler" but doesnt have the D-linemen moving back and forth.

The Steelers do it a ton. Its not uncommon. As Ga said we do it too.

the steelers do some crazy stuff where everyone on the front 7 is just walking around casually until the snap

It's called zone blitzing. We already do it.
I know what a zone blitz is :crazy:this is different from a zone blitz. And maybe we have done this before, but I dont think Ive missed more than 3 games over the last 15 seasons and Ive never seen us run this type of defense.

We have done it before. We did it some against LSU

Everybody loves to see defensive players moving around and jumping in and out of gaps . . . until somebody guesses wrong and the defense gets gashed by a fullback dive.

But in this defense, noone was jumping around or moving around, there might be 2 down lineman, and 3 standing, or 3 down and 3 standing. Just the 3,crap, nevermind, if it was a zone blitz, it didnt look like a zone blitz, and even the announcers commented that they hadnt seen it before and how effective it was because you could tell that it was creating a ton of confusion for the offense. But I know most of you know all there is to know and there can't be anything new out there if you hadn't seen it.

Do you remember who was running it? That might help in figuring out what it was.

No, but I guess it had to be an NFL team since there wasn't any college games on last weekend, although I did stop and watch a little of a high school game. I didnt pay much attention to it at first and attention was quickly diverted by 2 y/o daughter. I just remember thinking i could see how it caused confusion, and it may have been a zone blitz but it looked to me like the corners were in man to man.

I like multiple defensive sets.

Against a pro-set offense or west coast offense a 4-3-4. Against a spread offense (a team with base offense of 4 or more WR), I would prefer some type of nickel package, 3-3-5 or 4-2-5.

:bow2: I agree.

Here's what we should do:

1. Wait for the opposing offense to snap the ball.

2. After the snap, locate the ball carrier

3. At that point in time, we should then tackle the ball carrier.

4. Repeat.

What happen to the New Defensive Scheme we had for this year...We practiced it for Spring and for the first part of the year... 5-3-3... Very Side... Agree with above. We only have a handful of Athletes this year to make any scheme work...

Pshh, that's just a fad.
