It was reported in another thread but I decided that this needs its own thread. Shackelford is a linebacker (not a DT). He committed to us mainly over MSU, who I thought was leading for him.

Did they recruit this guy for LB or as a possible future DE. Just going by his weight seems guys that come in already 220lbs usually end up at DE. And the guys guys coming in around 200lbs stay at LB. Anybody know? thanks coondog

He comes from a football rich area in Decatur AL.
Does anyone know which camps (if any) has he gone to?

Not offered by Bama. That's disappointing. Sorry, but it is. Hope he becomes an All American, but you can't deny Saban can identify talent.

I'll take a guy that has a nose for the football...120 tackles that says he can get to the ball!

I would say UT does just fine identifying good LB's

at 220, he will probably be in MLB. Plenty fast for that. Also, look at reaction times. They are just as important if not more than how fast a player is.

For all their supposed smarts...

“When Vanderbilt started recruiting me they tried to recruit me as a defensive tackle since my name was D.T.,” the 6-foot-2, 230-pounder said shortly after committing to UT on Friday morning. “I had to tell them ‘Nah, that’s my name.’ ”

He could end up at DE. Everyone thought croom had him on lock.

We need lb depth losing 3 or 4 big key contributors next year, so we should take him.
