Anyone want to wager that our 3 posts collectively have a lower close shot completion percentage verses JP?I remember last year the consensus was how great we felt with JP, Felix, Carey and Brown. Of those 4, Felix was the only one with size where that attribute seemed to matter. Carey had a couple good games. For JP being 6’11 245, he reminded me of Kyle Alexander in the paint for the most part. Dewayne brown is someone to be excited about.
How many games did our size really matter? Hell Syracuse was about the smallest team we played and they beat us. Our “bigs” weren’t really impactful in the way Michigan’s giant was. Some other poster pointed how how important the wingspan is, which all three of Rubin, Lue and Brown have. I jusr think we’re a little enamored with “6’11+” in order to have a good center. I’d rather have 3-4 guys in that role that can move and shoot rather than someone who’s 2 inches taller and misses bunnies like it’s his job
I feel like there are only 1-2 guys a year in the post with games like Edey or Dickerson though. You can’t plan around stopping two players nationally who aren’t in your conference
I like Lue's versatility. His role will be defined at UT. Setting screens, pick and roll, can handle well enough on straight lines, has ability to switch defensively, decent shot blocker and will be asked to focus on rebounding. Need guys like this. Definitely an SEC athlete at 6'9 and 235 and he is very mobile and a quick leaper. Expect him to get bigger under our strength and conditioning program. As a 4 can be used to play on perimeter and crash to rim on the baseline which could keep court open for our scorers. Probably an underrated portal find. Has some ability to score but that won't be his primary need.
No, you just have to be patient… Rick already mentioned in the last presser that they have a big, and just waiting on announcement… Rick is being very intentional.. I think there will be 2 more bigs added…Not sure about him as a third post . If he was your fourth you feel better. I'm just not enamoured with this part of the roster right now. Your essentially hoping that Brown takes a huge leap in year two. Possible but he wasn't very good down the stretch this year.
I think the world of Kyle A. But JP is a better player all around. Kyle was an incredible shot blocker but JP had multiple double doubles and is a fantastic passer for a big. JP just needs to stay healthy.Just feel like they got way more out of Kyle than they did JP. Kyle was a rebounding and shot blocking animal…quite different from JP
JP is a better offensive player I agree. I think this team needs an Alexander more than it needs a JPI think the world of Kyle A. But JP is a better player all around. Kyle was an incredible shot blocker but JP had multiple double doubles and is a fantastic passer for a big. JP just needs to stay healthy.
