Safety will be a position of need with Abernathy and TKjr graduating and potentially Nigel going pro early.

We really needed this guy!

And again just like I posted about the recruit from SC, VT fans saying he won't qualify. Same story, if they don't pick VT their fans say this. Jealousy.

The Owl kid.

Oh, sheep! I was hoping to get through this thread without being provoked into yet another moment of insanity. Oh well.

T'were 2019 with the Vols head locked with the lizard-men. A game on a full moon night. The reptoids down by 5 points and 12 yards from a touchdown in a hard fought game, called timeout. On the Vols sideline, Anthony Harris, AKA Owl Kid glanced at the moon. He felt a primal urge exert itself. Involuntarily he gather a hefty lung full of air. From his mouth came a blood-curdling sound. "Owl. OWWWWL!" The draconian dudes across the field stared Vol-ward at the sound and shivered ever so slightly then took to the field. It was a pass to the left corner intended for a 6'6" gator-croc immigrant of Russian origin, the Kirov region to be exact. He trusted his height so just reached for it but a leaping Anthony arose in front and snagged the ball. Racing the other way he added 6 points to the Vols score. Then handed the ball to a lizardman who had pursued him. Telling him, "Take this ball to your coach. Tell him next time I want it delivered with upsidedown pineapple cake, the Miss Florida pageant winner and the runnerup, a bowl of cornflakes served with Ole Number 7 instead of milk. Run along now."

This is good news, because our Vols are recruiting based on needs and not for show. The competition will build within the ranks and we are no longer trying to out talent and it appears we have a staff that knows that and will be fully capable of tweaking the talent for success. Time will tell but it appears we are headed in the right direction.

Feel like there's a lot of revisionary history about Butch's recruiting going on in this thread. Sure, Butch did sign some 3-stars, but so has Pruitt. Butch recruited well enough to compete for the SEC East, if not the SEC. He just didn't coach them well enough.

Frankly, if Pruitt can recruit as well as Butch, but can also coach our players up, we'll be a very good team within a few years. And if Pruitt can land take the next step and land some elite talent *AND* coach 'em up, we'll be competing for the SEC.

But I do agree that Pruitt seems to be "aiming higher" than Butch. He's definitely not afraid to go after some elite talent. He'll strike out often, but hopefully he gets us a few home runs, as well.

The net has been cast very wide. He's determined to find top shelf talent that wants to be here and be part of this rebuild.

Many were excited about the 3*s Butch signed because they were the “diamond in the rough, overlooked, underrated, gonna be a superstar” players. I imagine all of Pruitt’s 3*s will be viewed the same because that’s the nature of fandom.

I am glad Pruitt is after the higher rated guys though. Quicker way to close the gap.

We've been decent with speed past few years.

Just not healthy or physical
this staff definitely has a type, and they know where they want speed. this team is going to look different in a year. it's going to look like what an SEC team that wants to compete at the top of the league looks like.

we won't get every kid we want. you look at the top schools of most of these kids and it's Auburn, GA, FSU, OSU, Clemson, Bama etc....

he said we were going to have compete for the same players first, before we could compete on the field with them. he's doing that, and winning some of those battles.

this class will be a very good one, no matter where it ranks in the end. and when you have Bama and UGA at 92 rating and above, and a few others around that # as well, that's a lot of ground to make up from a ranking standpoint.

if i had to guess, i'd say if things keep going like they are, we'll probably wind up wiht a class somewhere between 8-12 nationally, and top 5 in the SEC.

but, long way to go. so i go back to "so far, so good".
