New Coach immediate impact?

The post the other day about Carroll leaving USC and coming to the SEC via Tennessee makes sense and would probably mean a drastic turn around from this year. I have several reasons for making that statement.

1. Fulmer has allowed the program to decline under his watch; as a result, another HC doesn't have to deal with the "Following the Bear" syndrome. A new HC could take all of the credit for bringing the program back up to the top of the mountain.

2. A new HC brings an excitement and recommitment to excellence and doing the little things right that seem to have been lost during the past few years. My biggest knock on Coach Fulmer and his staff is that the "little things" are seemingly left unattended. This may not be an accurate statement of his coaching but the results seem to bear me out.

3. What coach anywhere in the country wouldn't want to be successful in the SEC. The best and brightest coaches would not run from that challenge. They would embrace it.

4. Tennessee has the money, the facilities, the prestige and the history of being a top program. This would not scare the best and the brightest. It would attract them.

Finally, Tennessee can re-enter the national picture next year with the right coach.

In my opinion, Out of all the coaches i think are legit possibilities (Cowher & Gruden are not possibile) Brian Kelly could come in and make an immediate impact with the talent we have. I think he is the best up & coming coach and could be a steal if the position becomes open. JMO

impact? it will be a story for someone locally, regionally and some nationally. it could be a big national story if the right guy were to come in.

but as to on field impact, i would think it would take at least 2 years to see significant impact as the current roster learns the new system, and another 2 years past that before the new coach is dealing primarily with players he and his staff recruited.

i think with any coaching change you have a window of about 4-5 years to really see what that coach is all about.

the right guy can come in and do what Saban and Meyer has done, but that requires some very good recuriting early on so you're playing your guys in year 2 instead of year 3, 4 and beyond. getting your guys in your system as soon as possible is key.

for example, Michigan and Rich Rodriguez would be in a considerably better position had Terell Pryor gone to Michigan rather than OSU. Pryor fits RR's system and could have been an immediate impact. now, RR has to go find others to fit the bill, thus holding up some progress.....
