With all of the rumours flying around about new coaches. OK, let's pretend that Fulmer retires/fired and is gone at the end of the season. Do you think that TN would be drastically changed next year, revived and ignited? Or would it be a looooong tough road still ahead. I find myself getting excited about the prospect of a new coach and that Tennessee Football passion comes back again. I had so much of it at the beginning of this season only to be shocked at how unprepaired and unused our talent is (completely mismanaged).

So how long do you think it'll take for a new HC to turn the Vols around, immediate or distant? Obviously the individual HC chosen makes a huge difference, but just in general terms of improvement.

We'll be able to win 8 or 9 games next year with a decent coach.

Damn, I thought this thread was about NEW COACH. Hell, he could probably have us at 3-2.

I agree that a coach in his right mind would have made much better offensive and defensive decisions by now, but honestly the one that kills me the most is "testing" and babying JC for so long. I thought he'd be much better, but c'mon, you can't tell me that in practice Fulmer couldn't figure out this kid can't play the position correctly.

Maybe the next coach (if that happens that is) can actually get our team fired up too. The last time i remember being really, jumping and screaming excited was when Cal came to Neyland in 06. The players and fans were all on board with that one. Man I miss that.

I think if we could land a new HC similar to Pete Carroll, Bill Cowher or someone of that caliber, we could duplicate the success Bama has had with Saban in his 1 1/2 seasons so far. I think we would win around 8 next year.

looooong tough road still ahead, all that stuff about getting the top 2 or 3 college coaches coming to UT i just don't belive, let alone the NFL names being mentioned, that being said something along them lines could happen, doubtful though,i would think they would be looking for anothere Pearl, got to give them what? 3 years to see if they change the program around, could be 3 years or more, acording to how many coaches we go thru,

I think if we drastically change our systems, or playcalling, and are working a completely new quarterback it could take time. But if you gave Lane Kiffin, or a Steve Spurrier this team next year with Stephens/Crompton? (only if he pulls his head out of his a$$)? and the eric berry/gerald jones' we have I think we could make an immediate swing. We pull a Michigan and decide to go spread, or hire a Johnson triple option it could take some time adjusting to.

I think if we had a new coach,we would have success depending on what kind of coach it is.For instance say we got a coach that runs the spread offense we may not have that good of a year because he doesnt have the players he needs to run it,but I could handle a losing season under a new coach on his first year.Regardless I think we would finish with maybe a 3 to 5 loss season.

If we hire the right guy it could be a quick fix.

as fans that follow the vols as close as we do, we feel that our national prestige has fallen way off but i don't think that is necessarily so. i have several friends from out of state that know alot about college football and feel that tennessee could get almost anyone they wanted, excluding a few coaches of course. with that in mind, and knowing how much ut would spend to ensure a new coach would have every opportunity to succeed, i would say a good new coach would have a huge impact quickly.

To get back to where we all would want and expect, (consistently being in the top 10) i would say it would take a couple of years. But I think we could win 9-10 games the first year if we had a good coach, we have the talent, that is for sure.

I think if the coach and staff that are implemented are good playcallers, and bring discipline to the team, we have a legitimate chance at playing for the SECC. That being based upon the young raw talent we have on the team.

I think where we might fall off a little, is in 2-4 years when our current players & recruits graduate and/or declare for the draft. Then instead of just basing performance solely on game outcome, we have to judge on talent being recruited.

I.E. Urban Meyer. I was skeptical of his ability as a coach to recruit. He has proven he's good in that department. But remember, he won the NC with Zook's players. But then again, UF doesn't have to recruit hard with a location, facility, and the natural talent right in their backyard.

the new coach would have success early on, but we would more than likely see a drop off 2-3 years from now because of this year's poor recruiting

you think nebraska wishes for the good ole days? they havent seen much of an impact at all. im all about the post-fulmer vol era, but i hope like heck hammy bows his neck and fights like heck through the resumes to hunker down on the right guy. wait, that sounds gross.

im just saying the grass IS always greener. and to answer the question, no there wont be an immediate impact. even saban at alabama has needed some time. meyer was a fluke. and Nutt just lost to South Carolina...

a good coach could take the talent at ut and turn it around quickly. 8 or 9 wins is very attainable.

I think we have the talent this year to have 9 wins with the right coach. We are close to 4-1 with Fulmer if we had a QB change and our starting punter.

I make no bones about a new coach comming in and winning a NC right off. Really I just want us to be competative again, I don't mind if we split home and home with UF GA an Bama, just make a game out of it. Get back in the SEC east hunt every year and mabey ones every 5 to 6 years be in contention for a NC. I want to see some fire in the players and get excited about UT football again and most of all take back Neyland and quit getting embarrased against our rivals.
