Well coming down to the final week of the season the picture is somewhat clear as to where UT will go bowling this year.

If/when we beat Kentucky this saturday that would put UT at 4-4 conference, 7-5 overall. We would also be the 2nd best team in the SEC EAST. A few things would have to happen for UT to be invited to the Cotton, Outback bowl.

Cotton/Outback: Auburn and Arkansas both have to lose this weekend IMO. This would give UT/Auburn/Arkansas identical records. With Tennessee being the most appealing (2nd in the East-5th best in the SEC overall, Monte's connections in Tampa, Tuff losses to Florida and Bama, and just the feel good story of a program on the rise) we should get the bid to the Outback/Cotton bowl.

If either of Auburn or Arkansas win it will be the Chik-Fil-a bowl for us which ill take anyday for what has been an up and down season. Play an ACC team-Clemson/GT hopefully get the W and build alot of momentum going into the off season and recruiting.

Now this is all my opinion but seems very likely.

Heres hoping for the best GO VOLS BEAT KENTUCKY!

We are pretty good against the run. We SUCK against the spread so I think it would be interesting to play GT. I wouldn't mind seeing that game.

why would monte's connections to tampa have anything to do with the cotton bowl which is played in dallas??

UT will not be playing in the cotton no matter what... almost always has been a secW team and LSU seems to be the perfect fit there - especially with Nebraska and Bo Pelini as the likely opponent.

I think we are the more appealing Outback Bowl team, but I feel that Arkansas would have an advantage over us for the Cotton.

We played in the Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M in 04/05

If Auburn or Arkansas wins this weekend we may be happy to be in the Music City or Liberty.

I saw UT vs Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl in the early 90's (92'/93'?) Arkansas was in the Southwest conference at that time.

I thought Cotton takes a rep from the SECW and Outback takes a rep from the SECE. Am I wrong?

They have a preference; it isn't set in stone.

The Cotton took East teams in '01 and '05 (both Tennessee.) The Outback hasn't taken a West team since '97, before the Cotton joined the ranks, IIRC, but they could. I believe the bowls select at the same spot in the order if they choose according to their preference but must let the other bowl select first if they pick from the other side.

Doubtful Auburn wins but I think Arkansas will win this weekend. Arkansas is red hot right now.

For the Outback to take a west team, they'd have to be willing to pick after the Cotton Bowl... vice versa for the East and the Cotton.

I want the Chik-Fil-A matchup. Wish people here would quit calling it the Peach. Times have changed people. Anyway, it would allow me to go the game...which is what I am REALLY hoping for.

It varies. It's more that those are the groundworks, but they take whoever they want

sometimes too it's outback as it's own tier and chickfila and cotton split the east/west thing
