As far as the companys I have worked for, most do not keep their managers in one spot to long. The reason for this is that the managers may become complacent in their daily routine working with the same people. The managers become to close to the employees and treat them like friends and not workers. So they move them around more to the different stores. It sounds like this could do wonders for our team. We get new blood and everyone makes out better for it. With new coaches come new ideas and can refresh a team. Even if you like CPF mabye will need a fresh look and new blood.

The fault in your assesment is that CPF would not be considered a manager. More of a CEO who answers to a board. Any CEO who has CPF's record in business would recieve huge pay raises to the tune that would make what he gets at UT look like lunch money.

That scenario happened to Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee and now they are going bankrupt for 200 mil.

i'm not so sure. the board would be realizing that the co. has been sliding since '98. 8 years of sliding would result in a new CEO as well.

I am not a anti CPF but how much impact should the fan base have on a coaching position? If say most of the fans are unhappy, should a coaches job be affected?

If we are comparing UT football to a business, then Fulmer would be retained as long as he wants, for whatever pay he wants. In business, the bottom line is revenue, not performance. UT football earns the University twice what it spends, so if you want to look at it that way, Fulmer is doing his job. But, if you are concerned with the wins and losses of our team, you should find a new example. Sorry finevol, but your argument holds no merit, and please stop talking out of your ass.

That all depends on your def of sliding. $ is still rolling in at a very high level in ticket sales, TV contracts, donations etc...

Having fans decide the fate of a coach would not work. You would have some wanting to fire the coach ever year if we did not win the SEC or start players the fans want.

This board does not reflect the fan base. It reflects the extreme on both ends. Some are in the middle. If you want to see what all fans think I guess you could run a poll in the paper or something like that.

Attendance at games, donations and other revenue tells more than any poll you could ever run. The market place is unbiased and tells the truth in green.

that's true because it's UT football. But UT football will always be UT football. in most businesses, these slides would result in loss of money. As fans of the program and the university we still show our support for the program even if we are unhappy with where it's going. If Microsoft created a crappy version of Windows, then replaced it with another crappy version of windows two years later, people would start switching to Macs and Microsofts performance and profits would go down. People wouldn't stand by Microsoft just because they were Microsoft. I'll stand by UT if Phil leads us to 0-12.

So by this scenario, a winning program is one that turns a profit. And after the last budget released by UT only 6 D1 schools turn a profit bottom line. We turned out a 3 mil profit so I guess we are like 3rd in the nation.

You know not of what you speak bill. Many will stand by but not all. Any appreciable dip will cause a firing faster than anything else. It will not take an attendance drop of more than 10,000 a game to achieve what many of you want. If a dip in attendance happens you will also see a dip in donations and you will see a change fast.

so the fact that you could see that all the UT fans left w/ about 5 minutes to play of the game doesn't matter, because they had already paid their dues. please. it's a horrible comparison. realistically fulmer isn't going to go 0-12, and as long as he hovers above getting a bowl game, the stands will continue to fill. either way he should be let go if he can't get us back to winning SEC Championships one out of five years

agreed, but will that happen next season or the season after if 1)we fail to get a SECC or 10 win 2)ticket prices continue to increase for raises etc. I think that it wont because people and scalping companies will be happy to buy those tickets and pick up the slack.

sure, and ENRON, Global Crossing, and MCI WorldCom all looked successful too, didn't they? Until it was learned that their success was done with smoke and mirrors and the investors were really getting shafted.

If people are happy to buy higher priced tickets then the point is that the majority are atleast happy with where the program is. As far as scalppers go they KNOW the pulse of the people better than most. They have to.

What point is it when things happen? Not sure really. A losing season def but it all depends on many, many things.

But clearly businesses have to look to the future and our current run will definitely dampen our future returns. Decent decision makers recognize that early and make changes to preclude being run over in the future, the KMarts of the world stick with the status quo.

Some fans at every school I have seen leave early when their team is losing or has a big lead. Fans left early at the Cal game this year.

how many big money boosters are publicly calling for a change? their silence speaks volumes about a "good ol' boy" system that is pervasive at UT.

That depends on the area of business. Retail cannot make changes that see immediate success and long term returns like the business we are discussing can. They can make an announcement, see a bump on the board and that is about it as far as immediate success. Huge difference.

Those "big money" boosters you speak of may know just a tad more about NCAA football and business than the average poster on this board.

Trust me, if the evil "big money" boosters see a change is warranted they will make noise.

and to point to a crucial difference between a business and UT football...

UT football doesn't have to be successful to bring in tons of money.
