Never thought I would see FSU # Thirteen in ACC pre-season poll

Recency bias is in effect with Miami.

Miami is so much easier to hate when they’re relevant, because their fan base shows up out of nowhere like cockroaches. And like D4H, none of them ever stepped foot on campus.

I’ve never had the hatred towards Tennessee that it seemed they have for us.

And LSU fans…if I’m being completely honest…are the closest thing to the most obnoxious factions of our fan base. I’ve always respected how crazy they are.
I loathe the Miami “fan base”. I think the main reason I don’t think they’re a good fit for the SEC is that they are a bunch of front runners. Like you said, they just appear out of nowhere.

That's 100% to do with Vol frustration around the results on the field over the decades. If that series was more 50/50, or even if UF held somewhat of an edge, I don't think our fanbases would dislike each other that much, if at all.

Their "fanbase" is the perfect encapsulation of that city. The difference between the image of their program/fanbase and UM as an institution is hilarious. It's like if Vanderbilt had heavily tatted, chain-wearing, out-of-control fans.

You can say that for any fan base and it holds true lol.

BTW, water is wet!

The University of Miami’s fan base is the poster child for being frontrunners.
The frontrunner aspect of their fans is what gets me more than the "they didn't go to school there" angle. The latter has always felt like gatekeeping to me ("you aren't a 'real fan' unless you went to school here") and I have never liked when people do it.

You underestimate my joy in reminding everyone here that D4H is a fraud.

I liked Sumrall at Tulane. Disappointed that he will be a Gayt. LW is prolly upbeat about it.

and Clemson # 7. How about SMU #2? Strange world we live in.

I honestly believe that some of these conferences are less concerned with how good their members are and more at their schedules and subsequently who they can market as a playoff team that was overlooked.

And Bobby Bowden said the easiest path to the national championship for FSU was through the ACC
I mean…they did 3 times. And played in the championship final (be it by BCS system or de facto based on Bowl Alliance/rankings) another 3 times.

They were in the first 3 BCS NC games IIRC
Correct, they were. All in all…

As ACC members they won:

- 1993 National Championship (Bowl Coalition - beat #1 Nebraska 18-16 in the 1994 Orange Bowl)
- 1999 National Championship (BCS - beat #2 Virginia Tech 46-29 in the 2000 Orange Bowl)
- 2013 National Championship (BCS - beat #2 Auburn 34-31 in the 2014 BCS Championship Game)

The also played in/ were championship runner ups in:

- 1996 season (Bowl Alliance - lost 52-20 to #3 Florida in the 1997 Sugar Bowl)
- 1998 season (BCS - lost 23-16 to #1 Tennessee in the 1999 Fiesta Bowl)
- 2000 season (BCS - lost 13-2 to #1 Oklahoma in the 2001 Orange Bowl)

More of a Spurrier/90's thing though really.

It continued into the post-Urban years, when they routinely found ways to beat us even though they weren't any good either. I think that's where the modern day frustrations of it come from.

If Spurrier + Urban owned us, but then it returned to a more competitive series after that, I don't think the hate would be anywhere near what it is. Tennessee fans build that game into something much more than what it is every single year, and I don't think it will go away until we rattle off 4 or 5 wins over them over a 5 or 6 year period. We have been snakebit in that game, especially when it is in the The Swamp. I wasn't convinced the game last year was over until the start of the fourth quarter.
