Never have liked Pat Forde

I don't guess he brought into consideration the staff that would be hired when he gave that grade.

"biggest positive to date is the hiring of Daddy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, for the same position in Knoxville. If former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron is added to the staff it would be a recruiting boon."

Yea. Me either.

I am so sick and tired of having to hear about what color these guys are. Does anyone really think that Tennessee would have passed on someone that the powers that be thought could bring a winner here if they were a minority? I personally wouldn't care if the guy was hot pink as long as he gets the job done!---end rant

these guys just want to stir the pot along with barkley - its a slow time of year for news - if the roles were reversed and they hired 7 black guys in the same situation there wouldn't be mch said about it.

I personally feel that Gill was the best qualified for AU - but his WHITE wife is on record saying she didn't want to move to a small town in the south. If you want blackHC's- there need to be black Asst. Coaches and Coordinators.

Same with kiffin- they statred in on UT but auburn up and fired tubb's so fast that they took the spotlight before that ball got rolling. I just don't understand the need to convict these coaches of not being qualified with out giving them a shot.

Why did he have to mention the "white" men part? It would be like me (if I was famous) making a comment about not as many white RB or WR in the league...or White players in basketball. I agree auburn made a horrible hire, doubt think it was racially chosen at all. Do ya think it has to do with that there MAY be more white coaches to choose from? As I have said 10000 times, I dont care if they are a maritian as long as they get the job done.

Considering that when Kiffin first got to USC they were 6-6 and coming off a loss to Utah in a bowl game, it can hardly be said that Kiffin had the "cushiest" job, especially since he was given the task of recruiting out of state players to a program which still lags behind in terms of facilities. It can be argued (and I was told this by Sean Salisbury's son who is going to USC next year-Sean played QB at USC and is still closely connected with USC coaches) that Kiffin was THE offensive mind behind their success during the Bush-Leinhart years.

The hire was a B+ before Monte. After Monte it is hard to keep it out of the A range. Pat Forde is simply wrong this time.

Tennessee. The hire: Kiffin. The grade: C-plus.
For 20 games, Kiffin had one of the worst jobs in all of football -- coaching under Al Davis. Before that he had one of the cushiest jobs in all of football: recruiting and calling plays at USC. I know this much: Post-Leinart and Bush, the Trojans' offense hasn't been dazzling, which reflects on Kiffin and the new coach at Washington, whom we will get to shortly. The biggest positive to date is the hiring of Daddy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, for the same position in Knoxville. If former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron is added to the staff it would be a recruiting boon. Still, there are some folks at USC who never thought Kiffin was especially suited to the college game. Will that change now?

alot like i have been saying, you da man pat!

Kind of interesting that Mullen is apparently a bright offensive mind, but Kiffin's best attribute is the addition of his father to the staff.

I think it's reasonable to ask questions about certain hires, but it takes a serious ego for Forde to basically say that he is smarter than all 7 AD's he is evaluating.

I guess we all should just listen to Forde and ESPN since they love Tennessee so much. He didn't look into the situation that much really. Why would you look at his NFL record in relation to the college game? We see how well that has worked for Spurrier, Davis, Carroll, etc

That evaluation definitely made the least sense.

I've always liked his columns but I stopped reading at this point

To my misfortune, I read further.

It gripes me when others allege racism just to demonstrate that they are against it. Who in there right mind isn't opposed to racism?... It truly springs from ignorance. Still, to have some egghead allege racism ignoring the resulting harm gripes me to no end.

You know, I've noticed that Pat Forde is white... as are many of the espn.com writers. Maybe he will put his money where his mouth is and give up his job.

Forde's one of the best in the biz. We might be a tad sensitive b/c our boy's on his list - and for the record, I love the Kiffin hire. So, let's hope Kiffin proves Forde wrong about him.

But Forde has a point - a lot of new hires at big-time programs, and not one of them has been a successful head coach.

that is noteworthy.
