Since moving from East TN, ive been living in Texas and I'm in serious need of watchin our boys play(in person). Fayetteville is as close as ill get, barring a independence bowl appearance. How many of you guys have been there, and what was the experience like?!?! I dont expect them to be as bad as most, but then again ive never been to an away game. Any info is appreciated.:loco:

This is the only game I'm going to miss this year due to the distance. I've never been, but one suggestion I can make that might be cool is to stay in the team hotel. A local travel agency (I'll have to dig up which one) offers packages with this as a feature of the package.

Thanks for the info. I think it would be awesome to stay in the team hotel. I want to take my nephews with me, and they would be so stoked to meet any of the players. I've taught them well. They call me on Friday nights to make sure im going to be watching the game with them. Again, thanks for the info.

Just don't tell anyone you live in Texas, and you'll have a good time.

Yeah, i tell everyone im from Tennessee.....home is where the heart is. I know they hate Texas more than Tennessee. Its apparent from talking to any Arkansas fan.

Fayetteville is a nice town, I will warn you the arky faithful are brutal at the games. I lived there for two years after college. There is a decent game atmosphere but nothing like Knoxville or College Station and their stadium is nice but weak if you ask me. Not many good restaurants in the area but you should go to market place near the mall. Dixon street is worth going to but be careful wearing that beautiful orange, like I said they are brutal. Me and my wife wore A&M t-shirts on Dixon and they thought it was funny to put the letter F in front of Aggies. They also gave me alot of crap for wearing a Tenn hat as well, but it comes with the territory. Have fun but you will want to get back home.

Fayettville is a nice city although it's very rural like. The campus is nice and the stadium is nice as well. The tailgating atmosphere is like a cross between Tuscaloosa and Knoxville. There's some flat areas and there's some hills. Arkansas fans seemed pretty lively although not the smartest bunch around.

Probably won't be too expensive and the Northern Arkansas Mountains are beautiful. (but i'm biased towards mountains :))

I would expect if to be a pretty good atmosphere all the way around.

Rural? Do what?

Rural. As in a cow pasture downtown not even 2 miles from the stadium. Rural. As in lot's of trees, mountains, no other cities near it.

Uh, I'm guessing you don't know much about it. The cow pastures are university land and a part of the agriculture program.

I am very aware of that but it adds to the "rural like" feel of the town. I'm not trying to knock it. I loved Fayettville. I've been there for a ballgame and for a Promise Keepers event. Thoroughly enjoyed both.

Lots of bug spray.

I live in East Texas.....Dont tell me about bug spray. At times here your 1 mosquito away from being carried off. We got gators here, just to give you an idea of the terrain. from June to August its 100 with HIGH HIGH HIGH humidity. The bugs will be the least of my worries. Thanks though.

How about the 4 cities that make up NWA? The MSA is approaching 500k people.

I'm not saying no one lives there. I'm just saying it has a rural "feel." I will admit that I didn't travel west of the city so I'm not sure of what the "feel" of that area is like but coming around the mountains and into Fayettville felt "rural."

With that said, one could say the same thing about Knoxville. In fact, my wife did the first time I took her. She said Knoxville was "dirty." I had to refrain from the violent urge that came over me when she said that as I carefully explained that Knoxville was a much older city. I explained that Nashville, her home, was quite a bit newer considering it wasn't even a major city until the early 50's.

It'll be tough to stay in Fayetteville proper. If I couldn't stay at Carnall Hall, Cosmopolitan, or something similarly close, I'd likely stay in Rogers / Bentonville. That's where all the Walmart servicers stay and it's littered with new hotels. Chain food there is garbage.

Find your way to Dickson Street, which has some of the best bars and very solid restaurants. Does or Herman's are the best steak joints that aren't of the fancy variety. Does is on Dickson, just east of the stadium. Carnall Hall is about 250 yards east of the stadium and has a phenomenal restaurant in it. The team has forever stayed in the Radisson / Cosmopolitan.

I expect it will be fun and a great trip, with some heckling involved. Hopefully nothing too serious. I would give them some h*ll, but would give the respect deserved to someone traveling into enemy territory. Hopefully i see eye to eye with them, and we can drink a few after the game and talk some football.

If you'll avoid the fraternity dillholes and complete rednecks, it will be a great time.

I doubt that will happen, you will most likely want to fight them after walking around with Tenn gear on. Especially if they win.

I always feel about Arkansas, the way i feel about LSU. They are over hyped, when they beat us, i will believe they are the better team. I know Arkansas has alot of talent on offense, but under Petrino that will always be true. Defense is another story. They are the Texas Tech of the SECW. Put up 40 a game, but give up 50.

I have been to Fayetteville for a Vols game; treated very well. Before and after. Wear your Orange with pride, smile abd be respectful at any SEC venue except the swamp and no worries. The gators do not treat visitors well, yet they cannot figure out why they are hated by the rest of the conference.

Interestingly, I had some pretty good pork bbq in Fayetteville. Hog fans there thought it was funny when I called em cannibals.
